Yangon Region has nearly 1,000 candidates filing for general elections

Yangon Region has nearly 1,000 candidates filing for general elections

Yangon Region Election Commission Chairman Kyi Myint said that the total number of candidates filed for 2020 general elections in Yangon Region constituencies is 955.

“955 will contest for House of Nationalities, House of Representatives, Region Legislative Assembly and Ethnic Affairs Minister seats in these constituencies.” Kyi Myint told Mizzima.

In Yangon Region, 295 candidates will contest for House of Representatives (lower house) seats, 72 candidates will contest for House of Nationalities (upper house) seats, 297 candidates will contest for Yangon Region Legislative Assembly number one constituencies, and 278 candidates will contest for assembly number two constituencies. And 13 candidates will contest for ethnic affairs minister posts, six for Rakhine ethnic affairs minister post and seven for Karen ethnic affairs minister post. These candidates are from 43 political parties and 32 are independent candidates.
