Yangon Region legislative assembly legislator Nyi Nyi from South Dagon township constituency said that they were making their COVID-19 containment and quarantine centre like a model township in Yangon Region.

The Yangon legislator said they are making South Dagon Township a model for other townships.

The number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Yangon has been growing.

“The cooperation and participation by local people in this community based quarantine centre is very strong. And also we have strong relation and connection with governmental departments in doing our work. And so do so with the local township administrative body in mutual cooperation,” he said.

“We have many community based civil society groups such as Thiri Mingalar, Shin Than Kwint, Yu Ya, Ah Hnine Mae, Meit Swe Kaung etc. which are rendering their help in our social work. So I’d like to say our South Dagon Township has the best cooperation and connection with CSOs which are carrying out social relief work so that our township is the best and model township in this work,” Yangon Region assembly legislator Nyi Nyi said.

In South Dagon Township, quarantine centres are opened at State Basic Education High School No. 2 and Aung Myint Moh housing estate. SHS (2) quarantine centre can accommodate up to 50 people and currently it has 42 persons under quarantine. Aung Myint Moh housing estate quarantine centre can reportedly accommodate up to 2,000 persons.

In the wake of the fast growth in COVID-19 positive cases in the Yangon Region, the government officials are expanding their quarantine centres. They have just built COVID-19 clinical centre which can accommodate over 400 positive cases at Thuwunna stadium and also they have just opened temporary quarantine centres at two high schools in Botataung Township which can accommodate over 100 persons.

As of Saturday morning, Myanmar had a total of 4,467 COVID-19 cases recorded over six months, with 70 deaths, and 1,130 reported as recovered.
