Pyin Oo Lwin Myoma police station has arrested campaigner and Myanmar Peasants Union Chairperson Suu Suu Nway under section 18 of Peaceful Assembly and Procession Law on December 6 at about 4:30 pm, her husband Merkee told Mizzima.
“She is now in police custody at Pyin Oo Lwin Myoma police station and they asked us to bail her out but she denied bail and is now in custody. She is charged with Section 18 of Peaceful Assembly and Procession Law for the demonstration led by her that took place about one and half year ago. They said that she was arrested for staging this demonstration organized by the Myanmar Peasants Union without required permission,” her husband said.
Su Su New (also spelt Su Su New), 44, was arrested yesterday as soon as Human Rights talk show held at Pyin Oo Lwin Eden Hotel concluded and she will be produced in court today.  She is a member of the National League for Democracy.
The police filed a case against eight farmers along with Su Su Nway in the same case charged with Section 18 of this law but only she is being held in custody.
She has been charged and imprisoned on several occasions in the past. After being jailed in 2008 for 12 years over demonstrations she was involved in, she was released on October 11, 2011, along with comedian Zarganar and 88 Generation activist Zaw Htet Ko Ko are part of a series of amnesties for political prisoners.
