Rumours that the Director General of the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance and over 20 officials have been suspended and are under investigation remain to be confirmed.
When Mizzima contacted the director of the Presidential Office, Zaw Htay, to confirm this, he did not deny it but declined to give any further details saying the investigation was still underway.
“I cannot disclose the investigation. You’d better ask directly their Finance and Revenue Ministry. We cannot say yet as it [the investigation] has not been completed. You’d better ask the Finance Ministry for details,” Zaw Htay said.
Director Kyaw Win from the Customs Department said that he had received news of suspensions from posts and officials were being investigated but he did not know the reasons behind the suspensions and investigations or who were being suspended and investigated.
“I heard this information may be rumours. I don’t know exactly who they are as the official order has not yet been issued. I cannot confirm this news as the official order has not yet been issued. I can’t say exactly if the order has been issued,” he said.
