Myanmar Junta Air Base in Hmawbi Township, Yangon region was attacked by resistance forces at 9 pm on 22 October.

Five improvised rockets were used to attack the Hmawbi Air base. One of the rockets landed at the military area designated for parachute drops located next to Hmawbi Air Force Base, meanwhile, the remaining rockets detonated at the perimeter fence of the airfield.

The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the resistance group Urban Special Operation (USO).

The extent of damage and the number of casualties remain undisclosed.

"According to a military informant within the air base, there was significant damage, but no specific details were provided,” said a spokesperson of the USO news and information team.

Following the attack, a helicopter conducted a low-level search of the residential areas in proximity to Hmawbi Township, and civilians were also compelled to kneel for inspection at military checkpoints near the air base.

“The sound of the explosion was very loud and violent,” said a Hmawbi resident.

According to the statement issued by the USO, the operation was conducted with the assistance of an informant from within the Hmawbi Air Base. Furthermore, it confirmed the safety of the resistance fighters from USO who executed the mission, stating that they have now reached a secure location.

In the aftermath of the attack, the regime forces initiated an inspection in the South Dagon and Thaketa Townships, commencing at approximately 11 pm. As per the report, no civilians were detained during the inspection.

An official from the USO news and information team informed Mizzima that the assault on the Hmawbi Air Base was specifically aimed at the regime, as the Military Council had been using aerial attacks that resulted in civilian casualties. The intention was not to harm innocent civilians.

This operation is purportedly the fifth mission carried out by the Urban Special Operations (USO).

The Urban Special Operation (USO) was initiated in Yangon on 22 September and has completed a total of five operations as of 22 October.
