There were demonstrations in Yangon to commemorate one year since the illegal execution of four anti-junta political prisoners on 23 July.

The junta executed Ko Phyo Zayar Thaw, Ko Jimmy, Ko Hla Myo Aung and Ko Aung Thura Zaw on 23 July 2022.

Demonstrations were organised in Yangon by the Sanchung Main Strike Column and Revolution Force.

Shwe Athae, a soldier from the Sanchung Main Strike Column said: “The main objective of this demonstrating is to forever express the public’s disgust and hatred towards the military for the fallen Spring Revolution heroes, for the murderer and tortured of imprisoned students, for the violent oppressions of the entire public and for the torching of villages.”

Ohmi, another Sanchung Main Strike Column soldier said: “The security situation is not critical. It [the demonstration] was performed in an orderly manner.”

The President of Sanchung Main Strike Column, Peter Kyi, warned the public to be cautious as defence forces are going to be engaging with junta forces in urban area.
