Worldwide protests as Myanmar junta chief attends ASEAN meeting

Myanmar nationals and supporters joined demonstrations around the world on Saturday to protest against the Myanmar junta chief’s invitation to a meeting of ASEAN, with calls to return the country to a democracy.

People took to the streets or supported online campaigns with a call the make their voice heard on 24 April during the ASEAN meeting.

In London, protesters made their voice heard at a large rally in Parliament Square for Myanmar and in solidarity with the newly formed National Unity Government, the civilian opposition to the Military junta.

In Tokyo, Myanmar nationals acted out the parts of Myanmar soldiers and demonstrators during a protest. Those playing the soldiers, carrying model guns, pretended to kick and shoot at the protesters, conveying the harsh situation in their country.
