Women and children injured in three days of Myanmar junta air strikes in Bago

Mizzima

For three consecutive days, starting from 21 to 23 November, Myanmar junta forces conducted airstrikes on villages including Payarkone, Tawkyaungpauk, Thegon, Nganwarseik, and Yaelel (East) in Kyaukkyi Township in Bago Region.

There were no ongoing battles or apparent resistance activity in these areas during this period.

On the afternoon of 23 November, an aerial bombardment was carried out by the junta on Tawkyaungpauk village in Kyaukkyi Township. A resident reported that the incident resulted in four civilians, comprising three women and a child, being injured.

A resident of Kyaukkyi Township said, "The junta carried out three bombardments on Payarkone and Tawkyaungpauk villages on 23 November, even though there were no ongoing battles at that time. They hovered over the area before conducting the bombardments."

On both 21 and 22 November, during the bombardment, four civilians - comprising two children, a woman, and a man - were reported to have sustained injuries in Nganwarseik Village. Additionally, in Yaelel (East) Village, the local clinic, church, and preschool were destroyed, while a resident's house and a garage were damaged by fire, according to the Karen National Union (KNU) Central.

Kyaukkyi Township is within the jurisdiction of the 3rd Brigade under the KNU, an ethnic group opposed to the junta.

The Karen Emergency Relief Committee (Kyaukkyi) says civilians are enduring a state of insecurity and fear as a result of human rights violations, including airstrikes conducted by the military regime, targeting the civilian population.

The committee issued a strong condemnation of the junta's targeted attacks on the public. The committee has urged civil organizations, revolutionary forces, international governments, and international communities to take decisive action against the Military Council, which is intentionally targeting the civilian population.
