Woman arrested for allegedly taking part in funeral-style protest against junta leader

A woman in Pyi Township, Bago region, was arrested by soldiers for participating in an anti-military protest performing the funeral of junta chief Min Aung Hlaing on 4 July morning.

Thandar Lin was abducted by soldiers at her house.

“About 10 to 15 soldiers came to her house. But they did not seem to know who Thandar Lin was. They took photos of all the family members in the houses, and confirmed who she was with a person in the car before she was taken away around 10 am, “ said a close relative of her to Mizzima media.

The performance of the funeral was organized in many areas of the country to mark the 65th birthday of Min Aung Hlaing on 3 July.

“Some video clips of the funeral-style protests were from the time just after the coup. Tiktok videos in such protests went viral online on his birthday. Soldiers would probably think these videos were recently created,” said her relatives.

Two other women and three men were arrested for the protest on 4 July.
