Village in Mandalay’s Madara township set fire to over three days by Military Council

Kauk Yobon village in Madara Township, Mandalay was set on fire by the Myanmar Military Council for three days in a row, according to a local resident.

Nearly 20 houses were set on fire by the Military Council for three days in a row, the resident told Mizzima.

“It has been three days. It started on January 12. Once on that day, one time on the next day and once again today and thus three days in a row, destroying 18 houses,” he said on January 14.

“Three villagers who were suspected as junta military informants or Dalan or Pyu Saw Htee were killed on 12 January for setting fire to the village on the orders of the Military Council,” he said.

The resident said the army aimed to set fire to the village every day. Five or six houses were set on fire each day.

“Junta soldiers also threatened to set fire to houses that were not supporting the military,” according to a news source in Madara township.
