The US will follow the 10- country Association of South East Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) lead by inviting a non-political representative from Myanmar to attend the upcoming US - ASEAN summit in Washington, according to Reuters.
The summit, which will be hosted by US President Joe Biden will take place on 28 and 29 March.
At the end of 2021 Myanmar was banned from ASEAN meetings. ASEAN subsequently said that a non-political Myanmar representative could attend ASEAN meetings, but the Myanmar military junta refused to send one and claimed that it is a legitimate government.
