Two Myanmar migrant workers killed and over 40 injured in Thai bus crash

A bus carrying 47 Myanmar migrant workers overturned in Thailand’s Tak Province killing the driver and two Myanmar workers and injuring more than 40 other Myanmar workers, at about 9:00 p.m. on 29 November.

According to Moe Joe, the Chairman of the Joint Action Committee for Burmese People's Affairs (JACBA), the accident happened between the 68th and 69th kilometre markers on the Doi Rauk road in the area of Tak City when the brakes on the bus failed. This caused the driver to lose control which led to the bus overturning.

He said: “The accident happened after the buses brakes were damaged and stopped working. The driver and two Myanmar workers died and more than 40 other workers were also injured. They were transported to Kink Taksin Hospital last night.

The bus was taking the migrant workers from Mae Sot District on the border with Myanmar to work in a factory in Hat Yai in Songkhla Province.

According to local Thai media reports, the police are investigating the accident and coordinating with relevant agencies before taking appropriate action.
