A total of 27 people, including 10 businessmen and 17 youths, were arrested in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, on 22 February, according to an activist from Monywa.

The arrested businessmen own various shops including a mobile phone shop, tea shops, a workshop and a restaurant.

"Protesters have called for the Six Twos Revolution, a reference to the date, 22/2/2022. The people were actively involved in [demonstrations on] the last [special date, the so-called] 2.2.2022 revolution. People were arrested [on 22 February by the authorities] for various reasons, because they feared a mass uprising by the people," said an activist from Monywa.

Some of the detainees were arrested while distributing leaflets for the Six Twos Revolution and some people were arrested at their places of work. The businessmen were reportedly arrested in their shops. The detainees are being questioned at Monywa No. 1 Police Station and City Hall.

Articles in military-aligned media and military council supporters’ groups say that the business owners are being prosecuted for supporting local people’s defense forces (PDFs). The arrested youths were accused of being PDF members and carrying out acts of terrorism.

Soldiers are reportedly driving around Monywa in unmarked cars dressed as civilians to gather information and arrest people.
