Three branches of Kanbawza Bank in Monywa bombed

Local guerillas bombed three branches of the privately-owned Kanbawza Bank on Kyaukka Road and Myint Mo Road in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Township, at around 6:30 p.m. on 19 March.

"All three locations were hit at the same time. We attacked them using hand-made grenades. They [the banks] pretend to be donors and ask us for our bank account details. If they find out our account numbers they freeze our accounts. We heard that the bank and the junta troops then split the money [in the frozen accounts] evenly between themselves, so we carried this attack out as a warning,” said a spokesperson from Knights of the Red Land guerilla group.

The operation was conducted by joint forces from the Knights of the Red Land, the People’s Defence Force (PDF) South Monywa, and the Black Dragon Special Task Force. No one was injured in the blasts.

"It's a little far from my house, but I heard two loud explosions. I don't know if there were any casualties or not. They were not investigating when I passed that road this morning ", said a local.

Local guerrillas also bombed a petrol tanker delivering fuel to the Military Council troops who were stationed at the Monywa GTC campus in Thanaung Win Village, in Monywa Township on 2 March.
