Ten people in Myeik township died of COVID-19 in March

The death toll from the COVID-19 virus in Myeik, Tanintharyi Region rose to 10 in March, according to Myeik-based health charities.

An official from the Myeik-based Health Charity said, “Since the first week of March, we have found a large number of COVID-19 cases in Myeik township. The death toll has risen to 10.”

Health officials said that seven men and three women died of COVID-19 within 15 days, between March 5 and 20.

"No one died of this disease (COVID-19) in February but there have been infections. The death toll was high in March,” said a Myeik resident.

A health charity official said that most of the dead were elderly and people suffering from other diseases.

Myanmar has an official tally of 610,000 COVID-19 cases and over 19,000 deaths. Daily deaths spiked in August 2021, dropping to close to zero daily in March 2022.
