Teachers from various departments at Pathein University launch Red Ribbon Campaign

Teachers and students from various departments held a red ribbon campaign at Pathein University on February 5 morning.

Teachers at Pathein University mentioned in their statement: "We will join with other civil servants in the non-violent Civil Disobedience Movement. We do not accept a military coup. Release the State Counselor, the President and the detained people's leaders as soon as possible. Recognize the results of the 2020 general election. Implement the convening of a free and fair parliament with popularly elected people's leaders.”

The teachers were one of a number of groups that came out wearing red ribbons to protest against the State of Emergency imposed by the Military in Myanmar on February 1.

"Our today campaign includes various departments from Pathein University. No one has encouraged us to take part in this campaign. All of us have taken part in the campaign with our desire. The main purpose is to show our discontentment with the current coup d'etat," said a teacher at the English department at Pathein University.
