Brunei's head of state Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah opened the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit on Tuesday, as member nation Myanmar stayed out of this year's talks after its junta chief was banned from the event.

The virtual gathering kicked off three days of meetings hosted by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with US President Joe Biden as well as Chinese and Russian leaders set to attend.
