The Military Council

  • During the tenure of the NLD government, a project was implemented for Myanmar’s first underpass beneath Pyi Road in Kamayut Township of Yangon Region. Upon its completion, the junta leader conducted the opening ceremony.
  • U Ko Ko Hlaing, junta minister and team leader of Humanitarian Aid Management, said that among the 5-point consensus of ASEAN leaders, the 4th point was being implemented for the provision of humanitarian assistance from ASEAN to Myanmar.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the previous government did not succeed despite their efforts not to have floods in Yangon. He acknowledged the efforts for no flooding there during his tenure.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the problems of squatters would be solved because of the activities being undertaken to narrow the urban-rural gap.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On 19th October, International Republican Institute (IRI) will award U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Ambassador to the UN, with the John McCain Freedom Award as a democratic hero.
  • In the period of a month after the NUG declared a state of emergency, up to 1562 members of the junta armed forces died and 552 others were injured. The NUG also announced that there were defensive attacks on a total of (953) military, political and business targets.
  • In the speech on general principles of Disarmament and International Security Committee under the 76th General Assembly of the UN, U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Ambassador to the UN, said that there was no need to doubt about Myanmar’s pledge to abolish nuclear weapons and it would be adopted by the MPs, fairly elected by Myanmar people, as soon as possible.
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun said that Myanmar became a member state of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, starting from July 2015. Despite a lack of cooperation and transparency by the military, Myanmar’s civilian government played an active role to adhere to the convention.
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun attended three committee meetings of the 76th UN General Assembly and called for international action against Myanmar Army which had been committing terrible war crimes, having killed over 1100 people including 75 children.

Revolution Activities

  • On Friday, U Nyi Bu, former Chief Minister of Rakhine State, was sentenced to 2 years in prison together with hard labour under the charge against Section (505-b) for defaming the state.
  • The European Parliament, comprising 27 countries, condemned the military coup in Myanmar and approved of the NUG and CRPH as official representation of the democratic desire by Myanmar people.
  • On Friday, Kalay General Strike marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In a village of Yinmabin Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship at dawn Friday.
  • In Shwebo Township, local residents of a village marched in support of the NUG on Friday morning. They also expressed their desire against the military dictatorship, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • People’s Embrace (Wetlet) announced on Friday that 3 soldiers, who joined the CDM, had been sent safely to a liberated area.
  • In Monywa, Fatty, a betel-shop owner on Union road and allegedly an informer to the junta, was shot dead at close range by Monywa Heroes Group.
  • In Tantsi Township, Tantsi People Comrades conducted an ambush against the junta army on patrol on Friday afternoon.
  • According to PDF South Monywa, they carried out a bomb attack against a military truck near Monywa clock tower.
  • In Minbu Township, combined students’ unions distributed brochures calling on the students not to attend school under the slavery education system of the military junta.
  • In Paigyyone Township of Kayin State, a camp of the Kayin Border Guard Force was attacked at about 11:00 pm Thursday and 4 members died.
  • In Chanmya Thazi Township, a section of Mandalay-Pyin Oo Lwin railway was blown up near 56 street and 116 street at about 7:30 am Friday.
  • On Friday morning, Meiktila youth conducted an anti-junta movement, distributing brochures for participation in the fight against the military dictatorship at crowded markets and on main roads. They also placed a banner on Kanku bridge - “There must be war for peace”.
  • In Moegoke Township, there were bomb explosions at Music Zone KTV, where junta soldiers tend to go for relaxation, and at the house of a junta informer at about 6:30 pm Thursday.
  • On Friday morning, Yangon youth expressed their desire, swearing against the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • In Hlaing Township, there were two explosions at Ward (9) administration office, injuring a garbage collector and 3 policemen.
  • After exchanges of fire between Kawmu PDF and the junta army, junta soldiers raided Wathinka middle village on Friday and arrested 2 local residents for no apparent reason.
  • In Taninthayi Region, Dawei youth made an anti-junta movement on Friday morning, “The war flame is burning. Help each other”.
  • In Thayetchaung Township, Pyusawti members under the junta arrested a monk by force and raided the houses of NLD members.
  • In Longlone Township, youth led a protest against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Mawlamyeingyun Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, Min Min Oo, a member of the junta people’s army, was stabbed to death by an unknown man at about 6:00 pm Wednesday.
  • In Loikaw of Kayar State, a bomb exploded at Inwa Bank, owned by the junta army, at about 11:00 am Friday. According to local residents, windows were broken in the building.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to a KNU source, there were 16 battles between KNLA Regiment (5) and the junta armed forces in Pha-Pun District from 1st to 6th October. Reportedly, 12 junta soldiers, including 2 officers, died and 26 others were injured.
  • In Tanai Township of Kachin State, there was a fighting between the junta army and KIA at Naungmi village on Friday morning.

Summary on 8th October

  • The military junta is having a hard time in the international community. As they have not implemented the 5-point consensus yet, ASEAN is considering to break up with them.
  • As for the NUG, they are getting recognized in the international community, including the UN. ASEAN showed signs to build a relationship with them as well. Therefore, it seems like they are getting better at diplomatic affairs.
  • In Sagaing, Mandalay, Yangon, Ayeyarwaddy, Kayar, Chin, Kachin, Kayin, Shan North and Bago, the public have been taking part in the people’s defensive war against the military dictatorship in their own ways.
