The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG Ministry of Education made an announcement regarding an equitable education program for students from higher education and vocational training sectors on Friday.
  • The NUG expressed its disappointment and concerns about the outcome with regard to Myanmar of the consultation meeting on ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance held in Phnom Penh
  • in Cambodia.
  • The Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said that the Malaysian government would keep their relations with all stakeholders, including the National Unity
  • Government (NUG) and the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), to help solve political instabilities in Myanmar.

Revolutionary Activities

  • On Saturday, Myanmar people in Israel conducted a protest against the military dictatorship in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Israel as part of the second wave of the Global Spring
  • Revolution.
  • In Ginme in South Korea, there was a protest against the military dictatorship in Myanmar. Reportedly, it was joined by Degu Sayardaw and Shwe Wah Yaung Sayardaw (Norway).
  • With a statement, political prisoners called on ethnic armed organizations to decline the invitation to peace talks by the military junta.
  • In Ayadaw Township, a rally of Phoenix marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • According to the YDF Tilin, Zaw Phyo, a soldier from one of the junta army weapon factories, joined them on 15 April.
  • In Shwebo Township in Sagaing Region, a rally of villagers marched for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • On Saturday, an alliance of local PDFs attacked junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members in Palai Village. Reportedly, eight members of the junta armed forces died.
  • On 5 May, the junta armed forces raided Kalarma Village and Letkautgya Village. Reportedly, they arrested women hiding at the village monasteries and beat them for no apparent reason.
  • In Kantbalu, the junta army sealed off the house of a CDM teacher- U Zayyar Myint Aung and Mahasan Private High School on 3 May.
  • In Chin State, the junta armed forces have been destroying houses in villages on the Mindat-Matupi Road from time to time. Reportedly, they did so for the third time at the end of April.
  • Consequently, there are IDPs who need assistance.
  • In Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region, a local PDF raided No. (4) Tonekha Detention Center at about 5:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, the military junta lost three members.
  • In Dawei Township, the house owned by an administrator of Thabya Village was set on fire on Saturday evening.
  • In Kayin State, the junta army took out 60 political prisoners from Pha-Ang Prison all of a sudden on Sunday morning. Reportedly, those prisoners protested against the military dictatorship, by singing an anti-junta song and banging plates.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In the Kawthulay Area under the Karen National Union, a combined force of the KNLA and KNDO fought against the junta army invading the area. According to KNU Central, there were 507
  • battles there in April and 356 junta soldiers died.
  • A Spokesperson from the KNU confirmed again that they would not join the peace discussions that they were invited to by junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • In Tandabin Township in Bago Region, a combined force of the KNLA and PDF arrested a car with two junta army officers in it, on Saturday evening.
  • In Shadaw Township in Karenni State, there was fighting between the junta army and the Karenni Army on Sunday morning. Reportedly, six junta soldiers, including an officer, died.
  • In Fruso Township, a convoy of four military trucks was attacked near Lawgyayku Village. Reportedly, no less than 25 junta soldiers died and weapons were confiscated.
  • The ABSDF announced on Sunday that they would not attend the peace discussions being held by the military junta as they were not inclusive.
  • According to the Karenni Combined Forces, no less than 20 junta soldiers died and four military trucks were burned in battles on Saturday. Reportedly, weapons such as machine guns and RPGs were confiscated and prisoners of war from the junta army were detained.

The Military Council

  • In Thanlyin Township in Yangon Region, two sergeants from the junta army raped a woman on Saturday evening. Reportedly, her relatives were not able to report it at the police station.
  • According to the junta weather department, local flights and fishing vessels in coastal waters or further away should be cautious because a powerful storm is forecast.
  • Under the junta Ministry of Education, there have been new appointments of tutors and demonstrators at universities and colleges. Reportedly, there was a welcoming ceremony for 40
  • such teachers at Yangon University.
  • U Thaung Han, the junta Minister of Electricity and Energy, inspected Nay Pyi Taw No. (1) Mainstream Sub-Power Station and a potential location for a Solar Power Plant. 
  • Among the ten ethnic armed organizations which signed the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), five of them will attend the peace discussion on the invitation of the military junta.
  • According to the junta media, 1,207 people sat the written test for the vacant positions of gazette officers at five test centers.

Summary on 9 May

  • Malaysia stated clearly that they would stand with the NUG and keep relations with them. It also called on other ASEAN member countries to do the same to help solve the problems in
  • Myanmar.
  • The approach of Cambodia to the Myanmar issue has been too soft. They treated the military junta gently and failed to keep their promise, they could not solve the root cause of the problem
  • in more than a year. 
  • With a great losses everywhere, the military junta lost members including military officers. They seemed to be in the position to run away from every battle. However, there was no mention of
  • such casualties in the junta media.
