The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 39 members of the junta armed forces had died and 7 others had been injured on Wednesday.
  • Ministry of Human Rights-NUG announced that the UN Security Council was to call for an inclusive meeting immediately to discuss Myanmar’s affairs and make decisions for blocking weapons and financial flow to the military junta and transferring them to the ICC for their inhumane activities.
  • Dr. Sasa said that it would not be acceptable at all if the trip of Hun Sen was not for the Myanmar people, but just to shake the blood-stained hand of the junta leader.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG announced that whether individually or in alliance, local defence forces and guerrilla forces were to register at the ministry.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG announced that public’s revolution forces could ask for support from the ministry and based on financial resources and operation requirements, assistance would be provided in accordance with procedures.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG sent a statement of best wishes to Deputy Major General Gwammaw, Vice-Chair (1) of Kachin Independence Council, on his 60th birthday.

Revolution Activities

  • On Thursday, Amnesty International urged that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to call off his trip to Myanmar.
  • According to Earthquake People's Defence Force, they raided a house compound on the bypass in Pakkoku and conducted an arrest upon a report that some people, including regional officer, had been gambling there with police security.
  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, local PDFs carried out an attack with 40MM projectiles at the junta army stationed in the Shwepaukkan football ground on Thursday morning. Reportedly, there might over 10 casualties among the junta soldiers.
  • In Tightgyi Township, the junta army shot dead U Htain Linn, a mentally-impaired man in Ngaeainsu village, on Wednesday night and took away his body, saying that he had not opened his house during their overnight guest list check.
  • In Hlaingthaya Township, local PDF opened fire at 7 members of the junta armed forces inspecting motorbikes and cars in front of Yoneshay bus-stop at 9:45 am Thursday. Reportedly, 2 junta members died.
  • On Thursday afternoon, Burma Final Revolution Armed Forces (B.F.R.A.F) threw a grenade at a military truck in the compound of electricity department in Thaketa Township.
  • In Dawbone Township, a woman in Kyisu Ward, allegedly a junta informer, was shot dead on Thursday morning.
  • On Thursday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • On Thursday, Mandalay variety forces marched against Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen who would come to Myanmar to meet with the junta leaders.
  • In Monywa, local residents of Latbadaung Taung Area conducted a campaign against the Cambodian Prime Minister on Thursday.
  • On Thursday, Monywa-Amyint General Strike led a march with a banner - "Don't Support Another Killing Fields", burning a photo of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
  • In Dibeyin, local people marched against the Cambodian Prime Minister supporting the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • Chanting slogans against the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East expressed their desire on Thursday.
  • At about 3:00 pm Wednesday, an alliance of local revolution forces blew up 4 mines at the district court in Yinmabin Township. At that time, a car with 10 junta soldiers arrived and there were exchanges of fire. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, there were battles and the junta armed forces set fire to 11 houses, according to local PDF.
  • As a 333-day protest, Kalay people marched on Thursday morning, holding a banner against military slavery.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship on Thursday morning.
  • In Monywa Township, three junta soldiers died in a mine attack on Wednesday. After the incident, the junta army shot dead a civilian named Ko Zar Lin on the road.
  • In Indaw Township, the junta armed forces dropped bombs via fighter jets in Gahe village at about 11:40 am Tuesday. Reportedly, a woman died, another one was injured and 3 young women were missing.
  • In Kantbalu Township, a local guerrilla force conducted a remote mine attack on a convoy of junta police motorbikes leaving MEC sugar factory, owned by the junta army, at 1:40 am Wednesday. Reportedly, 3 police members were injured.
  • In Kani Township, there was an introduction to Mahuya Nagar Regiment of local PDF on Thursday by performing military skills and taking an oath.
  • In Kyaikto Township of Mon State, there was an explosion in front of the high school in Kinmumchaung village at about 8:30 am Thursday. KRF, a local revolutionary force, announced that they had not done it. Reportedly, the junta army or their Pyusawti servants might have carried it out.
  • In Thatone, there was a robbery at Global Treasure Bank.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, there was a dawn march against Hun Sen supporting the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, burning his photo on Thursday.
  • Ko Tun Oo, a leader of anti-junta movements in Dawei, was sentenced to 19 years in prison under 5 charges.
  • According to rescue teams, most IDP camps in Karenni State have almost run out of food and thus, they are in urgent need of financial assistance and basic food items.
  • In Kalaw Township of Taunggyi District, the junta general administration department issued Section (144) on Tuesday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Loikaw Township of Karenni State, a combined force of KNDF and PDF conducted an ambush on a unit of about 200 junta soldiers near Kayan Thaya village at about 5:30 am Thursday. Reportedly, 15 junta soldiers died.
  • At 5:50 am Tuesday, there were exchanges of fire between KNLA and the junta army near Ingabo village in Thhatone Township. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died and 6 others were injured. According to the KNU on Thursday, there were no casualties among KNLA members.

The Military Council

  • The military junta announced that there was part-time power outage in some areas of states and regions due to low production of electricity and activities for balancing the power system. There could be a compulsory electricity blackout anytime between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm.
  • According to the junta newspaper, clown contest for diamond anniversary of Union Day, would be shown on MRTV every night from 8 to 12 January.
  • According to the junta media, the deadline of university entrance exam application was extended to 15 January and if there was any difficulty regarding it, enquiries could be made at Myanmar exam department (Nay Pyi Taw).
  • In Yangon Region, the military junta organized a show of livestock animals for the first time.
  • The military junta announced that they would adopt the program in which investors could discuss online without the need to be in person.
  • To get salutes, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing had been preparing for a grand ceremony.
  • According to Myanmar Now media, General Phyo Thant had been replaced on Thursday for the position of regional officer of north west military headquarters in Sagaing with powerful revolution of PDFs.
  • In propaganda brochures by military helicopters, it was written that OIC and KIA had been supporting weapons.
  • In Tachelait, the junta union minister of home affairs and other team members had lunch at Aungmyat Hall and thus, the road in front of the hall was blocked off temporarily. Consequently, there was a traffic jam in other streets.

Summary on 6 January

  • Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen would come to Myanmar and discuss the five points contained in the ASEAN Consensus. The junta leader failed to keep the words and implement the agreement he himself had made in public.
  • Myanmar people have clearly seen a lack of organizational ethics and proper etiquette in Min Aung Hlaing. Despite Hun Sen’s effort, it would just end up in vain.
  • Dr. Sasa, Minister of the NUG, told the international community that the trip of Hun Sen could not be for the Myanmar people, but for the personal interest of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. As for international organizations, they also pointed out that he should cancel his trip to Myanmar.
  • It was said that ASEAN should lead powerful activities to resolve human rights issues, a matter of life and death in Myanmar. Hun Sen’s trip would make no difference for Myanmar, but it could bring negative impacts on Cambodia.
  • There were protests against Hun Sen’s trip throughout the country. On the other hand, the revolution was in great momentum.
