Spring Revolution Daily News for 6 May 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than sent a congratulatory statement on the two-year anniversary of the founding of People’s Defence Force (PDF) under Ministry of Defence-NUG. 
  • At 1:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 
  • In the meeting of the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration, the Union Prime Minister expressed thanks to the committee members as they were able to make more decisions and take responsive action. 
  • On 2 May, there was a meeting via video conferencing between the Labour Affairs Committee under the Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and Ministry of Labor-NUG. 
  • In the speech on the two-year anniversary of the founding of the PDF on 2 May, the Acting President of the NUG stated that the public are to take security cautions as the war of the revolution has gained momentum. 
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, raised a question about what effective action the Security Council could take for the Myanmar people faced with the killing of the junta army. 
  • To replace the junta army with a federal one for the security sector of the future Myanmar, the NUG has been making arrangements. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The international community has placed sanctions on Myanmar as the military junta has been violating human rights. Consequently, India-based Adani Group decided to leave the country. 
  • In Ayeyarwaddy Region, Kyankhine Township General Strike conducted an anti-junta movement, holding signs against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Yangon, a combined rally of Burmese Students’ Union, Democratic Party for a New Society and Youth for a New Society protested against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Pakkoku of Magwe Region, there was an attack via drone on the junta army and Pyusawti stationed near the university. Reportedly, 3 junta members died. 
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe with strong determination led a march against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Sagaing Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on Nyaungbinwun Police Station. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, the junta army set fire to Pazigyi Village over and over again. Reportedly, over 200 houses were burnt to ashes. 
  • In Shwebo Township, there was an attack on 4 junta soldiers including officers riding in a passenger car. Reportedly, all of them died. 
  • On Friday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship, raising a banner for sanctions on Myanmar’s Oil and Gas Enterprise, the income source of the military junta. 
  • On Friday morning, a rally of Yinmabin North marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Monywa, there was a surprise attack on the junta army stationed at Myawaddy Bank. Reportedly, a junta soldier died. 
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, the junta army killed two young people and discarded their bodies. 
  • In Shweku Township, the junta army set fire to Yele Village on the other side of Ayeyarwady River on Thursday night. 
  • In Htilin Township of Magwe Region, a combined force of local PDFs attacked the junta army near Aung Myauk Village. Reportedly, up to 7 junta soldiers died. 
  • On Wednesday, the human rights organizations, members of the Asian Forum on Human Rights and Development, called on ASEAN to resolve Myanmar’s crisis beyond the 5-Point Consensus. 
  • In an interview with Reuters, the Foreign Minister claimed that Indonesia has had secret meetings with the NUG, the military junta and ethnic armed organizations for months as an effort to initiate the peace process in Myanmar. 
  • In Bogale Township of Ayeyarwady Region, a junta soldier on patrol in Padegaw Village was shot dead at about 7:00 pm Thursday. 
  • In Thabaitgyin Township of Mandalay Region, there was a mine attack on a junta army car. Reportedly, there might have been casualties in the incident. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Ledo Township under control of Karen National Union (KNU), the junta army shot dead a person for no apparent reason. 
  • In the area under the KNLA Brigade (5) in Kayin State, there was an attack on the junta Border Guard Force. Reportedly, 6 BGF members died and weapons were confiscated. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing instructed for no import of locally-available products and only for import of locally-inaccessible products. 
  • In Mumbai of India, the junta Myanmar’s Ambassador to India attended the opening ceremony of the Mumbai Chapter of the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Association on 29 April. 
  • On Thursday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing met with the delegation led by His Eminence Sergiy, the Russian monk to Singapore and the ASEAN. 

Summary on 6 May 

  • The NUG stated that there would soon be an offensive war. They claimed that the revolution has been in great momentum. Consequently, the fighting might be heavier and there might even be urban battles. 
  • The ASEAN has been discussing with the stakeholders for Myanmar’s affairs. Likewise, China has been deeply involved as well. In other words, there might soon be an effect on the military junta and the revolution forces.
