Spring Revolution Daily News for 5 November 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • According to the Ministry of Defence-NUG, People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) conducted simultaneous attacks on the junta camps, police stations and detention centres in 8 townships of the military region (1), including Hommalin Township, Tamu Township, Kalay Township, Kalaywa Township, Kawlin Township, Wuntho Township, Kyung Hla Township of Sagaing Region and Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region. 
  • In KyarIn Seikgyi Township, the revolution forces have attacked the junta armed forces since 25 October. 
  • In cooperation with Ministry of Defence-NUG, Committee on Security and Defence under Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw presented to the regional and state MPs about the guidelines related to the PDFs. 
  • In Phaungpyin Township of Sagaing Region, the Local Administration provided financial support to 1,676 displaced people. 
  • U Yi Mon, Minister of Defence-NUG, stated that throughout the revolution period, the NUG has been cooperating with ethnic revolution forces in terms of military and political matters, and their Ministry has taken responsibility mainly for the military sector. 

Revolution Activities 

  • According to the news on Thai PBS, the junta army has been abusing foreigners including Thai citizens as human shields at their outposts in local battles in Northern Shan State. 
  • In Kawlin of Sagaing Region, there were two air strikes on the police station and the school in town on Saturday morning. 
  • In Chaung-U Township, there was an attack on Mya Pearl Army Camp on Monywa-Mandalay Road. Reportedly, there were casualties and weapons were confiscated. 
  • A troop of about 200 junta soldiers, which had stationed on the border of Kani and Yinmabin for months, had to go back suddenly to Monywa Northwest Military Headquarters. Reportedly, they were sent to Northern Shan State. 
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Northern Shan State, there has been intense fighting between the Alliance and the junta army. According to Ta’ang Women’s Organization, no less than 19 civilians have lost their lives within a week; including two children and five women. 
  • In Kyaukhtu Township of Magwe Region, there were two mine attacks on the junta troop which had invaded the area and taken away public’s belongings. Reportedly, no less than 6 junta soldiers were injured. 
  • In Gantgaw Township, the PDF took control of the junta police station in Min Village on Friday. Reportedly, the junta police from Taungkhinyan, another local police station, ran away. 
  • On the way from Pakkoku to Myaing, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy of 4 military trucks. With a great loss, the junta army set fire to Silaung Village. Reportedly, an old woman was burnt to death. 
  • In Natoegyi Township of Mandalay Region, there were attacks on Wetlu Police Station and the junta’s supporting troop. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Mone Township of Nyaunglebin District in Bago Region, the junta army fired heavy artillery and conducted air attacks targeting civilians. According to Karen National Union (Central), a local person lost their life, a monk got injured and 7860 people from 14 villages had to run away. 
  • In Northern Shan State, the Three Brotherhood Alliance has continued their offensive against the junta army. Reportedly, they managed to take control of more junta outposts on Friday evening and Saturday morning. 
  • Karenni Revolution Forces jointly announced on Saturday that Demoso Township still has been regarded as the military area, and clashes could break out anytime. 
  • During the operation led by Kachin Independence Army in cooperation with the PDFs, they have been able to take control of 18 junta camps. 
  • Over the period of nine days in Operation 1027 in Northern Shan State, the Brotherhood Alliance has been able to gain control of 106 junta outposts. 
  • In Kawthoolei Administrative Area under the KNU, the junta army committed over 1800 cases of human rights violations within nine months. Reportedly, 140 people lost their lives and thousands of local residents had to run away from their homes. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta Embassy based in Hanoi stated that Myanmar citizens are to inform them that they have been in Vietnam. 
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing was present at the religious ceremony of Kahtein by the junta armed forces. 
  • The junta Minister of Foreign Affairs received the delegation led by Mr. Nong Rong, the Assistant Foreign Minister of China and the joint Chair of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation. 
  • The junta propaganda media claimed that well-wishers had been making donations for the junta armed forces in Northern and Northeast Military Regions. 

Summary on 5 November 

  • Operation 1027 is still in great momentum. The Ethnic Alliance has been able to control more than 100 junta camps. There has also been a large number of prisoners of war. In addition, the PDFs led by the KIA have gained control of the junta outposts and police stations in Sagaing Region. Consequently, the military junta has had less and less areas under their control. 
  • The military junta has had a great loss throughout the country. At such time of disorganization of the junta troops on the frontline, fun-loving Min Aung Hlaing was present at Kahtein ceremony and offered alms to the monks.
