The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At the 209 th meeting of Inter-Parliamentary Administration Council in Indonesia, the decision was made to keep Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) as the representative organization of Myanmar.
  • In honor of World Press Freedom Day on 3 May, the NUG expressed its respect for media outlets and press people from all over the world as well as citizen journalists and news sources, that have been committed to ensuring freedom of expression, one of the basic human rights belonging to everyone.
  • The NUG and CRPH sent their best wishes to Islamic people in Myanmar on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, a festive celebration marking the end of the month of Ramadan, a month of
  • fasting observed by Muslims worldwide.
  • The NUG called on the international community to help take action against the military junta for their crimes against Myanmar journalists.
  • The NUG Ministry of Judiciary Affairs condemned the irrational legal actions of the military junta against State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi.
  • The 52 nd NUG government meeting was conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. There, the Union Prime Minister called for timely solutions in cases of misunderstanding between
  • revolutionary forces.
  • The Ministry of Defence announced on Monday that there had been a meeting on 12 April in a liberated area between NUG representatives, soldiers and police officers, who had
  • defected.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Kawlin Township in Sagaing Region, three police officers from Indaw joined a local PDF together with their weapons.
  • Somewhere in Myaung Township, an alliance of local PDFs attacked the junta army on Monday morning. Reportedly, about 28 junta soldiers died.
  • In Yinmabin Township, local people protested against the military dictatorship.
  • On the 419 th day of protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Monywa, a combined force of PDF groups conducted an attack on the gate of a junta army guest house at about 7:00 am Tuesday.
  • In Tigyaint Township, the junta army was attacked with variety mines by local PDFs on Monday. Reportedly, six junta soldiers died and about eight others were injured.
  • In Wuntho Township, there was fighting between the junta army and a local PDF near Donedoat Village at 2:30 pm Monday. Reportedly, there were casualties among many junta soldiers. As for the PDF, they lost a member.
  • In spite of heavy rain, the Mandalay General Strike went up to the peak of Myalait Mountain in Sintkai Township and hung an anti-junta banner there on Tuesday afternoon.
  • In Kyaukse District, a local PDF warned administrators who have been recruiting in villages saying it is for security in the community.
  • In Pauk Township in Magwe Region, local PDFs attacked the camp of the junta army and Pyu Saw Htee in Didoat Village at about 2:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, a junta soldier died.
  • In Tilin Township, a local PDF released a video of their attack on Yemyetni Police Station at about 5:00 am Monday.
  • In Hpakant in Kachin State, local people marched for the KIA, PDF and NUG on Tuesday. They also expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • In Yangon, students marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In cooperation with the PMYA, a combined rally of students’ unions from various townships of Yangon marched against the military dictatorship, holding anti-junta signs.
  • Kyauktan Township Students’ Union conducted an anti-junta demonstration. 
  • In Longlone Township in Taninthayi Region, an unknown man was found dead with his hands tied behind his back on the roadside in Tanbintan on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, there
  • was a pro-military badge on the dead body.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • On 22 April, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing invited ethnic armed organizations for peace discussion using video conferencing. A spokesperson of Chin National Front (CNF) said that it
  • was necessary just to commit to one’s own faith.
  • In the Wawlay Area south of Myawaddy, two sergeants from the junta army engineer corps, joined the KNDO together with their weapons, on Monday.
  • In the area under KNU Brigade (5), the junta armed forces have been using fighter jets to bomb villages on a daily basis.
  • According to the KNDF, they managed to arrest eight police members from the Lawpita hydro-power security force in Loikaw Township in Karenni State.
  • From Martaw Village under KNU Brigade (5), junta soldiers shot mortars into Meyuta Village in Butho Township at about 8:00 pm on Sunday. According to the Mutraw Newsletter, a local resident’s barn was burnt down and a near-by rice-mill was set on fire. 

The Military Council

  • On Monday night, the military junta warned the Malaysian government and MPs not to  communicate with or support so-called terrorist organisations (including the CRPH).
  • On Monday, the military junta dismissed their Minister of Electricity and Energy as well as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and the Police Officer in Chief.
  • At 10:00 am on Monday, there was a meeting between U Win Shein, the junta Minister of Planning and Finance, and Mr. Watanabe Hideo, the Chairman of the Japan Myanmar Association in Nay Pyi Taw. 
  • The junta leader said to the Cambodian Prime Minister that due to the activities of PDFs in Myanmar, monks, teachers, doctors, nurses, administrators, mothers, children and others
  • lost lives.
  • The second junta leader Soe Win went to Tanintharyi Region and Mon State where there is tension. Reportedly, he will be there from 1 to 7 May.
  • According to military sources, the deputy director general and secretary of the junta Magwe Regional Government was arrested under the National Secrets Act for the spread of a video
  • in which the junta chief minister had said that they were frightened by PDFs.

Summary on 4 May

  • In addition to administrative tasks on ground, the NUG has been carrying out activities to bring life to judiciary affairs. With good relationships with the international community, they
  • even had some discussions with the governments and MPs from some countries.
  • As for the military junta, they were put under pressure at the meeting of ASEAN as the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing had on occasion defamed the Chair. After that, the Inter-Parliamentary Administration Council in Indonesia made a decision to keep the CRPH as the representative of Myanmar. Moreover, the Malaysian government called on other member states of ASEAN to have relations with the NUG. Therefore, the military junta condemned them.
  • On the other hand, ASEAN and the international community are displeased with the junta administration because it never carried out its promise to implement the ASEAN 5-point
  • consensus.
