The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At the first public conference from 27th to 29th January, a decision was adopted that efforts would be made to take legal action against the military junta at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for their inhumane activities against the public.
  • The public conference called on the international community to officially recognize the NUG, not the military junta.
  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 46 members of the junta armed forces had died and 10 others had been injured on Saturday.
  • The public’s conference called on international community, including the United Nations, to create safe zones for civilians with international guarantee in Kayin State, Karenni State, Chin State, Magwe Region and Sagaing Region where the military junta have been targeting local people in their air strikes and ground battles with too much force. They also requested emergency humanitarian assistance for the public.

Revolution Activities

  • On Sunday, a combined rally of Degu Sayardaw and Myanmar people in South Korea protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, second police officer Khin Mg Htwe died on Friday. He was killed by a junta police officer as he was about to join the CDM. According to police sources, his family was told that he had died due to a mine explosion and they were not allowed to come to the funeral.
  • At about 2:00 pm Saturday, a combined force of local PDFs conducted an attack at Lingadaw police station in Myaing Township and took control of it. They released a video about it the following day.
  • In Myaing Township, a contingent of 100 junta soldiers on foot was attacked with mines by local PDF on Saturday. Reportedly, two soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Pale Township, local people and PDF conducted an attack by drone through the air at the junta armed forces stationing in Zee Phyu Gone.
  • On Sunday, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin Township marched against the military dictatorship.
  • On the way from Tamu to Kalay, two military cars were attacked by Tamu PDF on Sunday morning. Reportedly, there was a fighting for an hour and there were casualties among junta soldiers.
  • In Shwebo Township, local people protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday morning.
  • As a 357-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday, holding Eugenia and chanting ‘We must win’.
  • In Saibyin of Dibeyin Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Sunday afternoon, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • On Sunday morning, the junta armed forces went around Mandalay with a convoy of 50 police and military cars, including armoured vehicles, and tightened security measures.
  • On 1st February, the whole public would take part in Silent Strike from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and they would also clap their hands at 4:00 sharp.
  • Somewhere in Yangon, the public hung banners for the Silent Strike on 1st February.
  • At downtown area, Yangon General Strike Committee led a protest against the military dictatorship on Sunday evening.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Phapun Township of Kayin State, the KNU Regiment (5) announced on Saturday that all staff members serving the military junta were to leave the area by the waterway at a designated time on designated days.
  • On Sunday, KIA Administration Office in Putao District announced that people were not to transport or trade products of the junta army.
  • In Karenni State, there was still a heavy fighting between the junta army and a PDF near Konesut village.
  • In Kutkhine Township of Shan North, there was a battle between the junta army and MNDAA at Kachin Konesa village on Friday. Reportedly, 3 mortars shot by junta soldiers fell on the public’s houses.

The Military Council

  • In Hlaingthaya Township of Yangon Region, the junta administration arranged for a trade fair and fun activities on Saturday. Reportedly, they also put pressure on factory owners to come and show their products.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing criticized that Myanmar’s selection sports teams did not succeed as expected, not just because of athletes but also weaknesses at a national level.
  • In Mandalay Region, the military junta arranged to organize a cycling competition for the Mayor’s Cup on 1st February, Nationwide Silent Strike Day.
  • In Lewe Township of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, the military junta made announcements through loud speakers on Sunday morning that the public were not to conduct a Silent Strike, clap their hands, bang pots and pans or sound car horns.
  • The junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that as a member state of ASEAN, Myanmar would fully support the chairmanship of Cambodia and priority plans to be implemented in 2022.
  • The junta newspaper said that starting from 22nd January, the area around Loikaw was under control and markets were reopened with sellers and shoppers. In addition, pagodas and other religious places were crowded with pilgrims as usual.
  • According to an article by the BBC, Soe Thein, a former navy Officer and Minister, reported false information and citations to the junta army to seize power by force from the NLD.
  • On Sunday, people’s soldier Zin Yaw showed photos of a junta army regiment having prepared with mortars for their backline.
  • According to local residents, the military junta scattered money notes of 5000 MMK, containing ritual figures, down from a plane into Sittaung River in the east of Oatdwin Township.

Summary on 30 January

  • Despite the propaganda that it was peaceful in Karenni State, anywhere in the area, including Loikaw, was still deserted. Even though people returned home when the battles were suspended, their houses were damaged due to mortars. According to local residents, they found dead bodies of those who had been ruthlessly killed by the junta armed forces.
  • In Sagaing and Magwe under the supervision of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, local PDFs gained success till they could take control of police stations. It might be followed by battles to control towns.
  • At a time of great loss on the ground, the military junta tends to conduct religious rituals. They even used a helicopter to do so. In terms of strong determination and military skills, PDFs are far better than junta soldiers who would all be gone if they had to fight with the same weapons as PDF members.
