The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG announced that they had blacklisted and dismissed 22 staff members from the Irrigation and Water Management Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation for conducting a variety of oppressive measures against CDM members.
  • CRPH pointed out that inhumane activities of the military junta against ethnic minorities and other people throughout the country even in Christmas showed the junta attitude to continue such violence so that they could grasp power without hurting their self-interest.
  • The NUG announced that they had been making an effort with various channels based on media and volunteers from all over the world to report their activities to the public in a timely manner.
  • In accordance with the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that up to 60 members of the junta armed forces had died and 10 others had been injured on Sunday.
  • Revolution Activities
  • In Kalay of Sagaing Region, a combined force of local PDF, CNDF and Pa-Ka-Ha attacked a patrol camp of the junta army in the downtown area and Sammyo Police Station at about 3:30 am Monday.
  • As a 323-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • As a 292 day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship on Monday. They also marched to the tomb of martyr Ko Chan Myae Kyaw, who had been ruthlessly shot dead by the junta army on Pathein-Monywa Road during the protest on 27th March.
  • In Tantsi, anti-junta people raised the black flag at the downtown roundabout. At 9:45 am Monday, the junta armed forces came there to take it off. Reportedly, they were attacked with mines by local PDF and 5 junta soldiers were seriously injured.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Monday morning.
  • In Yinmabin Township, Yekyibin villagers carried out a dawn march against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Sonechaung people made a dawn strike against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • According to a leader of (HPDF - Htee Phyu), they set fire to the machinery of Myat Noe Thu Company doing illegal logging based in Ngapi Chaung Village of Tigyaint Township.
  • In Tamway Township of Yangon Region, a combined force of students’ unions hung a banner against the junta education in front of education officer office on Monday.
  • At about 7:00 pm Sunday, there was a bomb explosion at Thiri Mingala Market. After the incident, the junta army made all shopkeepers gather at the market parking lot and collected their names. According to market people, money worth one lakh MMK went missing while the junta police and municipal staff were taking security at the market.
  • In Kayan Township, U Moe Kyaw, allegedly Pyusawti leader in Yogyi Village, and his older brother U Win Ko were shot dead at about 12:00 pm Monday.
  • On Monday, Dawei youth led a protest against Cambodian Prime Minister and ASEAN supporting the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing who has been committing war crimes against the public in Myanmar.
  • On Monday, Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • At about 11:30 pm Sunday, Ko Mg Phyo and Ko Pite Htwe were arrested by the military junta for no apparent reason in Meittila.
  • In Chanaye Thazan Township, there was a bomb explosion on the third floor of district court at about 11:38 am Monday.
  • In Yebyu Township, a junta informer was shot in Yalai Village. Consequently, NLD members were arrested by the junta armed forces.
  • In Longlone Township, 5 people, including a former administrator of Sakangyi Village, were arrested by the junta army on Sunday.
  • In Winyaw Area of Kyain Seikkyi Township in Kayin State, students’ unions spread brochures against the junta education among students on Monday.
  • According to Thatone Guerrilla Force, the junta army sloppily buried dead bodies of 2 junta soldiers and 1 BGF member who had lost their lives in a mine attack near Payitko Village on 20th December.
  • According to a lawyer, actor Paing Takhon was sentenced to 3 years in prison at the junta court.
  • On Monday, Daw Than Myint Aung, Public’s Honour award-winner and author, was sentenced to 3 years in prison together with hard labour by the military junta.
  • In Bogalay Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, a MyTel telecom tower, owned by the military junta in Setsan Village, was blown up by local PDF at about 8:35 pm Sunday.
  • Reportedly, the verdict was postponed to 10th January for charges against State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi under import-export law and communications law.
  • On Sunday, an official of the UN expressed his shock over the news of no less than 35 people, including women and children, having been burnt to death in Fruso Township of Kayah State.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • Starting from 4:00 am, the junta army had been shooting mortars at Laykaykaw Area under the control of KNU Regiment (6). According to KNLA sources, there was a heavy fighting as a large number of junta soldiers marched to Metaw Thalay.
  • On Monday early morning, a combined force of KNLA conducted an attack on the junta army stationing in Temewaki Village. Reportedly, junta soldiers retreated and backline ones had been shooting mortars constantly until 4:00 pm.
  • According to Kayin sources, 9 junta soldiers, including military officer, died in the fighting between the junta army and KNU in Kawkarait Township on Sunday.
  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, there were several battles between the junta army and local CDF from 17th to 26th December. Reportedly, 8 junta soldiers died and many others were injured. As for Mindat PDF, they lost one member.
  • According to Mutraw Newsletter on Sunday, a second sergeant from the junta army operating in Dweloe Township under control of KNU Regiment (5), together with weapons, had joined KNLA.

The Military Council

  • The editorial of the junta newspaper said that the release of a joint-statement by Yangon-based embassies regarding battles in Kayin State was just ridiculous interference in internal affairs.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that it was necessary to make known Myanmar traditional sports all over the world and there must be an ongoing effort for high standard of those sports and their inclusion in international sports events.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the third day of discussion on parliamentary system by the junta election commission and political parties was held at Mingala Hall in Yangon Regional Government Office.
  • According to the junta media, military officers from the junta navy went to the houses of Christian soldiers, gave them Christmas cake, wished them well and encouraged their families at Christmas.
  • According to the junta newspaper, 188 people applied for 83 vacant positions at the Civil and Housing Development Department under Ministry of Construction.
  • The junta media falsely claimed that PDF had attacked students at a basic education school in Aungdawmu Ward of Pauk in Magwe Region. In reality, the PDF conducted the attack on the junta army stationed in the school after school time.

Summary on 27th December

  • Superficially, the military junta met with Christian leaders as well as Christian soldiers and donated items. On the other hand, they conducted air strikes at the places of Christian people even on this special occasion and committed mass murder in some places.
  • Without any care for words of the UN and international diplomats to stop such violence, the military junta just responded that envoys were not to interfere in internal affairs. The UN and international community should take effective action against the military junta, led by Min Aung Hlaing, with such rude manners in the 21st century.
  • There were heavy battles in Kayin State. Due to air strikes of the junta army targeting civilians, thousands of local people had to run away to Thailand. As some mortars fell in Thailand, Thai people on the border became the IDPs. Reportedly, Thai Army has been watching the situation.
  • As for Chin, Sagaing, Shan North and Kachin, they had battles. In Yangon, Mandalay, Ayeyarwaddy, Mon and Magwe, there were activities of guerrilla revolution and public protests.
