The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At the 56th all-inclusive meeting under the 76th UN General Assembly, U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar Ambassador to the UN, said that international community was responsible to protect Myanmar people, taking various measures against the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing, that had been committing crimes against humanity and war crimes.
  • In an exclusive interview with Ayeyarwaddy Media, U Yi Mon, Minister of Defence-NUG, said that in terms of attitude and wisdom, the junta armed forces and People’s Defence Forces were as different as day and night, and that it was widely known how cowardly and stupid the junta armed forces were.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights-NUG, said that the military junta wanted to cover up bloody February with celebrations and that it was necessary to identify their true nature and join the revolution in various ways.
  • Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Risks Management-NUG announced that they had been providing food and other necessary items to the IDPs from Karenni State, who were taking refuge in the areas of Southern Shan State, Thandaunggyi Township of Kayin State and the IDP camps in Karenni State.
  • The NUG announced that in cooperation with local ethnic organizations including KSCC, they had provided assistance worth of over 990 lakh MMK since 1st January and that they would continue their support according to the needs of the IDPs.
  • Ministry of Economics and Commerce-NUG announced the list of nine business people who had been helping with procurement of weapons for the junta army led by Min Aung Hlaing, saying that those people were supporters of violent criminals.
  • U Min Zayyar Oo, Deputy Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG, said that 24,532 special bonds had been sent to buyers.

Revolution Activities

  • Young leaders of anti-junta groups called on the public to take part in the Silent Strike on 1st February as it was one-year anniversary of the military junta seizing power by force.
  • According to the Federation of Basic Education Students’ Affairs, they would collect a sign petition from CDM students who had refused to join the junta education.
  • Ko Tin Tun Aung, a health staff member who had been arrested for telling the media that a white flag was being raised in a camp of the junta army in Paletwa of Chin State, would be charged with defaming the State.
  • In Sagaing Region, a soldier named Sai Lin Tun from the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (579), joined the Democratic Guerrilla Force.
  • As a 352-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday, holding signs - ‘Let’s take part in the end game’.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.
  • In Khin-U Township, local urban guerrilla forces inspected if there was any transportation of junta army products on the roads on Monday.
  • On Tuesday, a combined rally of Salingyi Township and Yinmabin Township marched against the military dictatorship.
  • At about 10:15 am Tuesday, the junta army was attacked with two frontline mines by a local PDF in Wetlet Township. Reportedly, a junta soldier died.
  • In Minkin Township, a local PDF attacked junta soldiers and Pyusawti members stationed in a village at about 10:30 am Tuesday. Reportedly, two members of the junta armed forces died and another one was injured.
  • In Dawei of Taninthayi Region, the junta armed forces arrested seven young social workers of a free clinic at 8:30 pm Monday for no apparent reason.
  • On Monday, Dawei youth conducted an indoors night strike against the military dictatorship.
  • In Tamway Township of Yangon Region, a combined rally of students’ unions hung anti-junta posters on Tuesday.
  • Reportedly, the junta armed forces even got on the buses running through Yangon and made inspections.
  • At about 8:00 pm Monday, there was a bomb explosion at the housing of special investigation officers in Thanlyin. At about 8:30 pm, another bomb exploded when the junta armed forces in ordinary cars arrived there. Reportedly, it was carried out by a combined force of local PDFs.
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, there was a fighting between the junta army and a combined force of KNDF+PDF, starting from 6:30 am Monday. Reportedly, there were three attacks by a helicopter gunship at about 4:45 pm.
  • In Magwe Region, there was a battle between Students’ Army and a troop of 60 junta soldiers on Tuesday. Reportedly, 9 junta soldiers died and the rest of them retreated.
  • In Myaing Township, thousands of soldiers from the junta army regiment (22) have been invading the area. Since 14th January, they have been setting fire to oil wells.
  • In Indaw Township, local PDF announced that they had arrested two Pyusawti members asking for money by force from cars under the false pretence of PDFs on Shwebo-Myitgyina Byuha road.
  • In Mandalay, LGBTs hung an anti-junta banner at a market on Tuesday.
  • According to prison sources, U Htein, a patron of NLD who had been sentenced to 20 years in Obo Prison, had to receive medical treatment for consecutive days as he had been suffering from heart disease again.
  • On Tuesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, there was a battle in Zotung area. On Monday, local CDF announced that three junta soldiers died whereas they lost one member and another one was injured.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Nammati Area under the control of KIA Regiment (2) in Kachin State, Kachin armed forces destroyed Myanmar Beer and Andaman Gold Beer, products of the junta army, on Tuesday morning.
  • In Thatone Township of Mon State, a military convoy was attacked with mines by a combined force of KNLA and PDFs on Yangon-Mawlamyein road at 1:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died and four others were injured.
  • In Kyain Seikgyi Township of Kayin State, local KNLA conducted an attack on the junta army invading the area on Monday. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died and three others were seriously injured.
  • In Phapun District under the control of KNU Regiment (5), KNLA carried out six attacks on the junta armed forces and the junta BGF on 22nd January. According to Mutraw Newsletter, 8 junta soldiers died and 7 others were injured.
  • In Buthitaung Township of Rakhine State, AA members and local people were vaccinated for COVID-19 in Zayditaung village, starting from Monday, under arrangements of the military junta.

The Military Council

  • On Tuesday evening, the junta administrators made announcement through loud speakers at Nay Pyi Taw Myoma Market that action would be taken against shop keepers who closed their shops in the planned nationwide silent strike on 1st February.
  • At the time of power outages on a daily basis, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they would keep implementing Upper Yeywa, Mid-Yeywa and Didoat hydro power projects.
  • The junta ministry of health announced that 37 people, including a foreigner, were infected with the Coronavirus Omicron variant.
  • The junta leader said that regarding Mandalay Myotha Industrial Park City Project, the border of the project area and vacant areas in the surrounding area should be made green by planting trees.
  • According to Yangon Khitthit Media, a Russian ship named AZSCO unloaded tanks, mortars and other weapons at Thilawa Port on Monday, which were carried away by the junta armed forces in the night time.
  • The junta newspaper said that 222 IDPs had returned home in Loikaw and near-by villages.

Summary on 25 January

  • Giving the excuse of frequent power outages in recent days, the junta leader keeps saying they are resuming hydro power projects. He might also carry out activities for Confluence power project, suspended according to public’s desire, to the taste of China.
  • In the areas under influence of PDFs and EAOs, the military junta had a great loss due to banning of their products.
  • To show that the military junta could not rule the country even after a year of coup, a silent strike would be conducted on 1st February. As a protest against the military dictatorship, everyone should join it.
  • In Sagaing, Karenni and Chin, the junta armed forces committed crimes such as murder and robbery on a daily basis.
