The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 72 members of the junta armed forces had died and 36 others had been injured on Sunday.
  • On Sunday, there was an online discussion between the Chair of Korean Economic and Social Research Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG with regard to possible cooperation of South Korea in the revolution of Myanmar for democracy.
  • In an interview with Myanmar Now, Defence Minister U Yi Mon said that the coup had been to extend the military dictatorship and the junta had come to realize that their future was not certain even under their own 2008 Constitution. For the country, it was like keeping the ghost; the military junta; which take privileges first and just bring burdens.

Revolution Activities

  • In Usan of South Korea, Degu Sayardaw and Myanmar people there protested against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Kani Township, a military convoy going up the Chindwin River was attacked by an alliance of local PDFs on Sunday. Reportedly, five junta soldiers, including a captain, died.
  • In Kalay Township, local people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Tantsi Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army vehicles were attacked with mines at about 3:20 pm Monday on Kantuma road section. Reportedly, the junta armed forces in Kantuma police station shot back wildly in response.
  • In Ye-U Township, the junta army invading the area was attacked with mines.
  • On Monday, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East protested against the military dictatorship.
  • As a 351-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Chaung-U Township, local people led a march against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • At about 3:30 pm Saturday, the junta army destroyed and set fire to 11 houses in Eastern Mutaw village. Reportedly, junta soldiers also arrested a mentally-ill man named Ko Aung Thu Hein and killed him.
  • In Ye-U Township, the junta armed forces shot mortars at three villages on the border of Tantsi Township. On Monday, a large number of junta soldiers invaded the area and thus, local people had to run away.
  • In Dibeyin Township, there was an anti-junta movement on Monday.
  • In Pinlebu, a combined force of PDFs attacked a police station and the junta army camp in town. Reportedly, no less than 20 junta soldiers died, including two officers.
  • In Pale Township, local people conducted a march against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Myaung Township, the junta army set fire to a house in Chaungsin village on Sunday morning. Reportedly, local PDFs had to put out the fire for other houses not to catch fire.
  • On Monday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • On Monday, Justice Mandalay People Defense Force issued a warning that KTV and beer shops in Mandalay were not to sell beer products of the junta army and that if they continued to do so, they would have to suffer for their own action.
  • In Pakkoku of Magwe Region, there was an explosion at KBZ Bank on Monday noon.
  • In Yesagyo Township, the junta armed forces started to destroy villages in Yelegyun Area on 20th January. Reportedly, they also shot dead U Sein Wine, a Nayyin villager.
  • In Yenangyaung Township, a combined force of local PDF and Rangers of Tropical Land (ROTL) confiscated the electricity bill worth 8 lakh MMK, which had been collected by force in Shwetoatkan village.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing instructed that Man Shwe Settawyar Pagoda would be included in decoration of the cars for his grand salute ceremony.
  • On Sunday, Myaing Township Basic Education General Strike Committee and the public marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Ngwe Saung Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, a large number of the junta armed forces arrested 14 residents of Bonemaunggyain village on Sunday afternoon.
  • In Ngatheinchaung, the junta police and soldiers arrested 15 construction workers, who had been working on a building at the entrance to the town, on Sunday night.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to KNU (Dupalya District), over 20,000 people from 27 villages had to run away from battles in Kawkarait Township of Kayin State in January.
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, the junta armed forces invaded the area on Sunday and there was a 10-hour long fight against Karenni Forces. Reportedly, junta soldiers set fire to the people’s houses.
  • On Sunday, CNO and CNDF announced their last warning to education staff members in Phalan of Chin State to immediately stop their service for the military junta.
  • In Myitkyina of Kachin State, KIA administration office has been taking action against shops selling the junta army products recently.

The Military Council

  • At about 5:30 pm Sunday, a pregnant woman died in Pawutphya village of Pulaw Township as she stepped on a mine, set by the junta army in front of a house. Reportedly, a 6-year old child was also seriously injured in the incident.
  • According to the junta municipal department in Mandalay, they would inspect and take action against the illegal sales of fuel oil in six townships of Mandalay Region this month.
  • The military junta announced that over 300 IDPs from Loikaw and near-by villages had returned home in Kayah State.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that due to some organizations disturbing electricity production with excuses of environmental degradation, there was not enough power.
  • In his meeting with former soldiers in Mandalay, the junta leader said that businesses owned by the army paid full taxation to the country and they requested no special privileges in doing business.
  • Reportedly, the junta state and regional directors came to monks and told them to take care of security.
  • Some electricity offices in Yangon announced that people without payment of electricity bills for three months and above would receive legal action, in addition to confiscation of their meter boxes.

Summary on 24 January

  • In the tenure of public government, it was made known through the parliament that the junta army businesses in Myanmar had been taking the most privileges without paying taxes to the State. It was shameful that the junta leader had told the opposite in his meeting with former soldiers.
  • In recent days, the military junta abused religion in political affairs. They shared their election books to monks and their junta officers went to monks, claiming falsely that PDFs had been responsible for missing monks and novices or those who were killed.
  • Despite the revolution in great momentum in Sagaing, the junta armed forces set fire to villages, robbed the public’s belongings and murdered local people in the areas with fewer PDFs.
