Spring Revolution Daily News for 25 February 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On Saturday, the Committee against the Military Coup-Korea will organize an online meeting with Union Ministers of the NUG at 7:30 pm. 
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting (8/2023) between the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administrative Teams. 
  • The Committee against the Military Coup-Korea has been donating 100,000 USD to the NUG every month. On Thursday, they did it for February. 
  • The NUG sent a statement of condolences for the loss of the Second Chief Military Officer of Ta’ang National Liberation Army aged 64 on 21 February. 
  • Union Prime Minister of the NUG claimed that the Spring Revolution based on diversity and unity would soon reach a turning point. 
  • The Ministry of Health-NUG has been recruiting healthcare staff for clinics and hospitals in the interim state federal units. 
  • Acting President of the NUG expressed his support for sanction of the European Union-EU on the 9 individuals and 7 organizations in association with the military junta. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The US Government called on the military junta to immediately release Dr Hkalam Samson, the former chair of the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC). 
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, local people marched against the military dictatorship on Friday. They also expressed their support for the KIA, PDF and NUG. 
  • In Dagon Myothit Seikkam Township of Yangon Region, there had been an attack on the administration office of Ward (94) in Yuzana Garden City, killing 2 leaders of one-hundred-households. Afterwards, the junta armed forces destroyed the local market for the third day. 
  • In North Okkalapa Township, there was a grenade attack on an administration office under the military junta. 
  • In Daegu of South Korea, there was a prayer event along with a anti-junta protest. 
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army set fire to Tarwa Village on Friday morning. 
  • In Tamu Township, local PDFs provided the IDPs with food and held discussions related to the ongoing hardships. 
  • In Seikphyu Township of Magwe Region, a large number of the junta armed forces raided local villages. Consequently, more than 1000 local residents have had to run away. 
  • In Kyaukse Township of Mandalay Region, there was a gunfire inside the local prison on Friday morning. According to local people, hearses went back and forth there. 
  • In Nyaung-U Township, allegedly a junta informant was shot dead. 
  • In Madayar Township, there were attacks on the ground and via drone on the junta army stationed in Powataung Village. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and the others ran away overnight. 
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, anti-junta youth conducted public talks against the products of the PTTEP and PTT making investment in league with the military junta. 
  • In Gyankhine Township of Ayeyarwady Region, a member of the Military Security Office ran into a stopped 10-wheel truck at 6:15 am Friday. Reportedly, he died in the incident. 
  • In Mawlamyeingyun, U Kyaw Tint Oo, the local chair of religious extremists’ organization and leader of the junta’s Militia, was shot three times at 11:30 am Friday. 
  • In the ongoing Assembly Budget Session on 19 February, the Minister of Home Affairs claimed that the government of Mizoram State in India had spent 41,466,000 Rupees to provide assistance to the war refugees. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • The junta armed forces have been invading the areas under the Kachin Independence Army-KIO/KIA. According to local people, there has been heavy fighting in Mansy Township for four consecutive days. 
  • Union Defence and Liberation Alliance sent an open letter to the NUG and the KIA to release the members of GZ Special Task Force Wetlet who were arrested for assassinating the focal persons Nay Myo Aung and Dujhon Saithu. 

The Military Council 

  • In the sector of border trade, 65% of the income from the export of rice and related products must be exchanged with the reference rate of the junta Central Bank starting from 1 March. 
  • The junta Minister of Foreign Affairs claimed that even the officials of Myanmar Embassies in the international community do not get to know about the real situation in the country. 
  • According to the junta Health Minister, the suspected case of malaria must be reported to the near-by healthcare department within 24 hours. 
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing stated that they had extended the state of emergency for 6 more months due to lack of stability in the country. 
  • According to Mandalay Regional Social Security Office, they have provided 112,150 workers from townships and districts with social security services in the current fiscal year. 
  • Reportedly, up to 8 political parties have submitted registration again to the junta Union Election Commission. 

Summary on 24 February 

  • The military junta claimed that even the top officials of Myanmar Embassies do not know the real situation in the country. It highlights their lack of leadership. 
  • The armed revolution has been extensive along with the clearance operation against the junta pillars. Even in Ayeyarwady Region with very few anti-junta movements, there were revolutionary activities.
