The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG called on the Indian government to continue their humanitarian assistance to those who have run there due to the violence of the military junta and allow those seeking refuge to cross the border area.
  • The NUG expressed their thanks to Thailand for opening the border and allowing Myanmar refugees to get to a safe and secure area.
  • The NUG announced that violent activities of the military junta must be put to an end as soon as possible. They also called on the international community to put pressure on dictators and provide help for the re-establishment of civilian government.
  • According to the official media of the NUG, (618) members of NLD have been unjustly arrested from 1st February to 17th December 2021.
  • Committee Representing Kayin Hluttaw (CRKH) expressed their sorrow for the people who have had to run away and get into trouble due to the invasion of the junta armed forces. They also strongly condemned the inhumane activities of the military junta. They, in cooperation with the NUG, CRPH, EAOs, CBOs and the public, have been supporting the IDPs to the best of their ability.
  • The Acting President of the NUG said that it was necessary to take caution as the military junta tend to set various traps so that they could grasp power. He also warmly welcomed Pa-O ethnic people who expressed their desire for joining hands with the NUG and NUCC, and who established Pa-O National Federal Council (PNFC).
  • At the NUG meeting, Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than said that each and everyone must try the best for the victory of the revolution as a handful of people with a thirst for power could cause suffering to all innocent people. Concerning Laykaykaw, there was an emergency meeting with some members of the Security and Defence Council and related ministries on the very night of the battle and took necessary action.
  • There are more than 1500 IDPs who have run away from Laykaykaw Area. Ministry of Labour- NUG, in cooperation with well-wishers, sent blankets and other necessary items to 500 refugees for the first time. They also announced that they had been making an effort to provide such support to the rest of the IDPs.

Revolution Activities

  • In Yangon, a combined rally of students’ unions from various townships marched against the military dictatorship, holding anti-junta signs.
  • According to local residents, shells were heard near Yangon Airport after the explosion at about 7:30 am Tuesday.
  • In Thaketa Township, a bomb exploded near the city development office in Ward 5 at about 7:10 pm Monday.
  • In Pale, Myinmu and Ayadaw townships of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces were attacked with mines five times by local PDFs on Tuesday. Reportedly, no less than 14 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Myinmu Township, a convoy of 6 military trucks was attacked with mines by local PDFs on Sagaing-Monywa road section at about 1:15 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, a military truck was damaged and there might be many casualties.
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, the hall and water purification machine, worth of thousand of lakh MMK in Hnamkha Village, were damaged as they were hit with bullets in the attacks by military helicopters.
  • On Tuesday, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In south west of Kalay Township, there was fighting between the junta army and local PDF on Monday. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died.
  • On Tuesday morning, Kalay people marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.
  • In Yinmabin Township, Benwechaung villagers marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning as a 248-day protest.
  • In Minkin Township, a convoy of 5 military trucks was attacked with mines by local PDFs in Sechaung village area from 12th to 15th December. Reportedly, no less than 60 junta soldiers died.
  • In Yinmabin District, Members of Myaukyama PDF was warmly welcomed by local residents on their way back after fighting against the junta army on Monday.
  • In Moenyo Township of Bago Region, the junta army shot dead Mg San Min Aung riding a motorbike at an inspection booth.
  • In Pha-Kant Township of Kachin State, a powerful rally of local people marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday. They also expressed their support for KIA, PDF, NUG and NUCC.
  • On Tuesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • On Tuesday morning, Mandalay rally marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Meittila Township, U Lwin Mg Mg, regional MP of NLD, was sentenced to 3 years in prison at the junta court on Tuesday.
  • On Tuesday morning, Mandalay people protested against the military dictatorship, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • At about 12:00 pm Monday, no less than 300 traders from Maha Aungmye Gems Market were arrested by the junta armed forces.
  • In Pathein of Ayeyarwaddy Region, the junta armed forces shot dead Daw Ma Htay aged 60 at her house in Yamanya Ward at about 10:00 pm Sunday while they were asking about her son, whom they wanted to catch. Reportedly, they also arrested her son-in-law.
  • In Pathein Township, the junta armed forces have been driving away local residents making their living in forests on the side of Chaungtha-Pathein Road since 17th December.
  • In Pyinmana Township of Nay Pyi Taw, 2 military trucks were attacked with mines by local PDF near Lafettaung Village on Monday. Reportedly, 12 junta soldiers died.
  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and local CDF at about 7:45 am Tuesday.
  • In Kachin State, Pha-Kant people expressed their disapproval of 4-month internet blackout by the military junta on Tuesday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to the Kokang, the junta army conducted a 3D attack at Manyan Camp of MNDAA in Monekoe District of Special Area (1) on Sunday.
  • According to a spokesperson of CNF/CNA, CNA training has been conducted since the establishment of the Chin National Force. After the coup, there have been such activities more frequently.
  • KNU Central expressed their thanks to the Thai government and Thai people for accepting those who have run there due to Laykaykaw battles and providing them with humanitarian aid.
  • According to Mutraw Newsletter, there were two battles between the junta armed forces and KNLA in Pha-Pun District under the control of KNU Regiment (5) on Monday. Reportedly, 9 junta soldiers died and 4 others were injured.

The Military Council

  • The military junta announced their decision to no longer keep the office of Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, in Myanmar.
  • At the graduation of the junta Defence Medical Academy, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that some doctors and medical personnel, giving a blind eye to medical ethics, left hospitals and clinics, causing a heavy burden of patients and loss of lives.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the junta army arrested KIA members, NLD members and so-called PDF members in Yemyet Village of Ye-U Township in Sagaing Region on Tuesday afternoon.

Summary on 22nd December

  • The military junta might have to face the consequences of closing the office of Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General in the country. They might become weak in terms of international affairs.
  • Despite conducting an invasive attack with a large number of armed forces, the military junta faced a great loss on Kokang battlefield. The same happened in Kayin, Sagaing and Chin.
  • At the time of all-round loss, the military junta is considering destroying the revolution with religious and ethnic affairs. The public should be aware of that.
