The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs-NUG released a Myanmar Updates (Episode 2- No. 3), a newsletter containing Myanmar roadmaps and information which the international community needs to take into consideration regarding Myanmar affairs.
  • Responsible personnel from the Ministry of Defence-NUG encouraged PDFs in Karenni State fighting against the military junta.
  • There was a meeting on the interim local administration and present on the occasion were local leaders from the administration of special areas. Reportedly, they discussed the matters such as activities for effective administration, ways to get necessary funds and difficulties faced on the ground.
  • Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Risks Management-NUG announced precautions for the public during the storm period.

Revolution Activities

  • In Salingyi Township of Sagaing Region, local people conducted their 376-day protest against the military dictatorship on Monday morning, holding signs for unity.
  • In Kalay Township, a combined force of local PDF and CNDF attacked the junta armed forces at about 7:00 am Sunday. Reportedly, at least 15 junta soldiers died and a member of the PDF was injured.
  • In Tamu Township, local PDF conducted an attack on the junta army stationed near Dragon Princess Lake on the Indian border on Sunday morning. Reportedly, 11 junta soldiers, including captains, died and many others were injured.
  • On Sunday, GSCB comprising 36 protest groups released an announcement with their objection to the trip of the Cambodian Foreign Minister and ASEAN Special Envoy as it has been pushing back oppressed Myanmar people under the 2008 Constitution of the military junta.
  • In Thonekwa of Yangon Region, a local PDF carried out bomb attacks on the tax office and the house of a female clerk working for the junta administration in Ward (1) on Sunday night.
  • Octopus Youth Organization, an organizer of peaceful protests in Yangon, has been calling new members.
  • In Yangon, 5 young protesters under 18 were arrested in front of Yuzana Plaza and Bodataung Township. Reportedly, they are being ill-treated by the junta armed forces during interrogation and are in danger for their lives. Moreover, two other youth activists are said to be missing.
  • In Thaketa Township, a combined force of God´s Hand Forces – GHF and The Owl conducted an explosion at the gate of the junta marine force at 4:15 pm Sunday. Reportedly, there were no casualties.
  • In Mingala Taung Nyunt Township, Yangon UG carried out a warning explosion at an ATM of KBZ Bank at 5:30 am Monday.
  • In Kyauktada Township, a pandal for the water festival is being set up in front of the city hall on Maha Bandula Road.
  • U Han Tha Nyein, co-founder of Kamayut Media and editor, was sentenced to 2 years in prison with hard labour at the junta court.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, youth and basic education students union protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday night.
  • In Thatone Township of Mon State, 4 junta people, including a captain from the fire brigade demanding money from the public, were killed on Sunday.
  • In Maubin Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, the junta armed forces arrested a man for posting a video containing strong wind due to the storm on Sunday evening.
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, 5 PDF members lost lives and 4 others were injured in the battle against the junta army in the east of Hnamkha Village.
  • In Mandalay, the military junta met with local business owners and forced them to participate in the upcoming water festival.
  • In Taninthayi Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army fired ammunition at Koein Village on Saturday. Consequently, some houses were damaged.
  • In Taninthayi and Thayetchaung townships, junta soldiers and Pyusawti members destroyed the houses of those who had to run away because of battles. Reportedly, they also stole money and other household items.
  • According to a U.S. official on Sunday, the U.S. government led by President Joe Biden officially regarded that the activities of the Myanmar Army against Rohingya people was genocide and crimes against humanity.
  • Ethnic Armed Organizations
  • According to the KNU, the junta army set fire to a church in Tathawpholi Village of Thandaung Township at about 1:00 pm on 8 March. Reportedly, they also killed a villager named Saw Aung Aung.
  • The 34th Chin Revolution Day was celebrated at a camp of the Chin National Front (CNF) and present on the occasion were representatives of the NUG and ICNCC.

The Military Council

  • On Monday morning, there was a meeting between the ASEAN Special Envoy and the military junta in Nay Pyi Taw in an effort to resolve hardships faced in Myanmar.
  • To celebrate the water festival for the 1383 Myanmar Calendar Year, the military junta started to build the Yangon City Central Pandal.
  • In Kwoonchangone Township of Yangon Region, the junta armed forces have been forcing local people to make permits for going beyond their wards. Reportedly, each permit costs between 500 MMK and 1000 MMK.
  • The military junta announced that the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok has been making passports within a day for Myanmar people in Thailand.
  • In Chin State, the Mindat-based junta army (274) fired mortars at ethnic villages between Mindat and Kanpetlet townships on Saturday. Reportedly, whole villages had to run away.
  • According to police sources, the military junta gave a bonus of 30,000 MMK to police members in frontline operations and various departments under the junta Ministry of Home Affairs abused it.

Summary on 21 March

  • Reportedly, a strong storm will pass Myanmar. However, the military junta do not have any preparations for the public. They even tried to cover up the news by arresting a young man posting a video on social media about strong wind.
  • At the same time of the trip by ASEAN Special Envoy, the revolution was in great momentum. There were more areas with battles and like they did in other war zones, the junta armed forces set fire to villages in those areas and robbed people’s belongings.
  • In the time of instability for the country, the military junta has been preparing to celebrate festivals to attempt to show the country is peaceful. They could not fulfill even basic facilities like water and power. Therefore, it would be just a waste of the country’s budget by forcing non-CDM staff to celebrate festivals like the grand one on Union Day.
