Yangon Region

  • During the COVID-19 crisis in the tenure of the military junta, funeral service fees have gone up and a long queue has to wait for the funeral service. According to local social workers, a lifeless body, assumed to have died of COVID-19, was thrown away on the road-side in East Dagon Township on Tuesday night.
  • Via social media, U Hla Soe, chair of Yangon regional military council, said that the cemeteries in Yangon just had capacity to provide daily funeral service for about 300 dead bodies and thus, the bodies had been piling up.

Mandalay Region

  • In Nganzun Township of Myingyan District, the junta armed forces could not arrest U Kyaw Soe Naing, a regional MP. Therefore, they arrested his three family members including a female student of Grade (8) at about 10:00 am Tuesday.
  • On Wednesday morning, a rally of Aungmye Thazan Schools marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Mandalay, Aungmye Thazan students held an anti-junta protest.
  • According to the group of death record, U Sein Myint, allegedly leader of Pyusawti group in Baligwin village of Kyaukse and an informer to the military junta, was stabbed to death.
  • On Wednesday afternoon, the junta armed forces made a violent crackdown on the rally “Phoenixes in the Ashes”. Reportedly, two women were arrested and two men were injured on their legs.
  • Amidst violent crackdowns by the junta armed forces in Mandalay, a rally of Monks’ Union marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday afternoon. They also carried out a prayer event.
  • In spite of violent crackdowns by the junta armed forces using ordinary cars, a rally of Mandalay youth expressed their desire for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Wednesday afternoon.

Sagaing Region

  • In Salingyi Township, a rally of Latbadaung Taung General Strike marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning, burning torches.
  • To mark their 133-day protest, a rally comprising various villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
  • In the south of Kalay, there were severe battles for three days between local PDFs and the junta armed forces. Reportedly, both sides lost a lot of members.
  • In Kalay Township, the junta armed forces in a military truck arrived at Thanpho village on Kalay-Gantgaw road in the early morning on Tuesday. According to local residents, those junta soldiers entered the houses and opened gunfire.
  • On Wednesday morning, a car of the junta army from Naba was attacked near Pinmalut village at the entrance to Katha.

Magwe Region

  • In Myaing Township, youth led an anti-junta protest.

Taninthayi Region

  • In Longlone Township, the students and the public from Nyinmaw village expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • On Wednesday afternoon, a rally of Longlone Township conducted an anti-junta movement.
  • In Thayetchaung Township, there was a protest against the junta rapists in Oattu village on Wednesday afternoon.
  • On Wednesday, there was an anti-junta movement in Thingyun village of Thayetchaung Township.
  • On Wednesday afternoon, Dawei General Strike, in cooperation with a rally of students, protested against the military dictatorship, cursing the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and burning a military jacket.
  • In Longlone Township, local residents held an indoors strike against the military dictatorship on Wednesday afternoon.

Ayeyarwady Region

  • In Gyankhine, two police brothers were sentenced to one year in prison for protesting against the military coup. Reportedly, they are sick in Pathein prison.
  • In Myanaung Township, the junta armed forces have been raiding Ngetgyigwin village group and Thebo village group, with the excuse that warfare training is being conducted there for PDFs.

Kachin State

  • In Pha-Kant, young residents of Lonekhine group made a protest against the military dictatorship.
  • In Kachin State, there was a battle at the foot of Milong hill on Lido road, between a combined force of CDPF mainly with CDM staff, PDFs, KIA regiment (6) and the junta armed forces in cooperation with the Naga People’s Army.

Kayar State

  • According to KNDF, about 50 junta soldiers came into Nanphe village in Bawlake Township at about 10:00 am Wednesday and broke into the houses.
  • Dimawso Township PDF announced that they would cooperate with other PDFs and fight against the military dictatorship.
  • The junta army has been strengthening their manpower in the areas between Bawlake and Fruso where Karenni Army is based for their operation. Consequently, the battles may become more severe.

Chin State

  • Due to the invasion by the junta armed forces, their ceasefire with the CDF failed and there were battles again in Chin State, starting from Wednesday morning.
  • The junta armed forces, which resumed their fight against Mindat CDF, gathered rations and manpower at Kyauktu airport on Wednesday afternoon.
  • With the guidance of CNF, CDF-Matubi will fight under the oversight of CAN.

Shan State

  • At about 6:00 pm Tuesday, the junta armed forces arrested three journalists from Taunggyi-based Thanlwin Thwechin media.

Mon State

  • In Paung Township, local residents made an indoors strike against the military dictatorship.

Nay Pyi Taw

  • The military junta announced that apart from political prisoners and detainees, other criminals and drug-related ones would be released.
  • CRPH expressed their deepest condolences to the family of U Nyan Win who passed away. They also made a pledge that they would keep the unfinished fight against the military dictatorship and for the establishment of a Federal Democracy Union.
  • The junta newspaper claimed that the military junta had not arrested the 5 doctors who had been giving medical treatment to the public in North Dagon Township.
  • The junta newspaper said that 375 prisoners in the whole country tested COVID-19 positive and only 6 people died, including U Nyan Win from the NLD.

Summary on 21st July

  • In Yangon, the public have been struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of fatalities has increased and dead bodies have been piling up at the cemeteries. The regional military council said that funeral service could be provided for just 300 bodies per day.
  • In Mandalay, there were still public protests as usual. On the other hand, there were crackdowns on protests together with arrests. There were still the cases in which the military junta arrested family members as hostages if they didn’t find their wanted persons.
  • In addition to public protests against the military dictatorship in Sagaing Region, there were clashes with local PDFs as the junta army had been strengthening their manpower there.
  • In Chin State, no sooner had UN food assistance arrived than there were battles again between the junta armed forces and local CDFs. The warzone was likely to be widespread as the junta army had been strengthening their power in the area.
  • In Kayar State, there were battles between local PDFs and the junta armed forces. As for other states and regions, they had almost no protests.
  • The junta leader has not got any effective plan for the prevention and control of COVID-19. They have been trying to cover up the reality of the current situation. Due to their false refusal regarding the arrest of 5 medical doctors the previous day, the public reportedly have no trust in the announcements of the military junta.
