Yangon Region

  • At about 9:00 am Tuesday, U Nyan Win, an EC member of NLD who had been arrested by the military junta, passed away at Yangon General Hospital due to a COVID-19 infection.
  • Concerning the death of U Nyan Win, EC member and secretary of NLD who had been detained in Insein prison, due to COVID-19, NLD announced that they would keep their fight for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • On Tuesday morning, the youth from Sanchaung General Strike expressed their desire for the end of the military dictatorship at a market in Hlaing Township.
  • In Yangon, the number of daily fatalities has reached up over 1200. According to the junta newspaper- MWD, City Development Committee has to split up their staff members into three shifts and provide funeral service 24/7.

Mandalay Region

  • Mandalay Health Family requested the military junta to release Dr Thet Htay, a well-known surgeon who was beaten and arrested by the junta armed forces.
  • Mandalay Health Community announced that the junta armed forces beat and arrested Dr Kyaw Kyaw Thet from Mandalay Medical University on 13th July.
  • On Monday (Martyrs’ Day), Mandalay Monks’ Union made a night strike and recited Parittas for the public.
  • On Tuesday, a rally led by Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • Due to a high rate of COVID-19 infection in Mandalay, an anti-junta rally of gems traders, in cooperation with philanthropic youth, distributed food and purified drinking water in the wards where grass-roots level people live hand-to-mouth.
  • At about 10:10 am Tuesday, there was a level-2 fire at the nylon-tar factory owned by Mandalay City Development Committee, together with the sound of an explosion.
  • As their 162-day protest, a rally led by Mandalay Monks’ Union marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • On Tuesday evening, the junta armed forces made a violent crackdown on the protest named “Phoenixes Rising from the Ashes”. Reportedly, two women were arrested and two young people were injured by gunshots.

Sagaing Region

  • In Kalay, a rally of residents with strong determination protested against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.
  • In Minkin Township, there was a battle between local PDF and the junta armed forces at Phat-Khat mountain on Sunday. Reportedly, 11 junta soldiers died and more than 10 others were injured.

Magwe Region

  • In the south of Myaing Township, the public conducted a night strike against the military dictatorship on Martyrs’ Day.
  • In Myaing Township, Basic Education General Strike Committee, in cooperation with the public from the northern zone, made a protest at dawn Tuesday, chanting for Federal Democracy and against the military dictatorship.
  • In Natmauk Township, residents marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship at 3:00 am Tuesday.
  • On Sunday and Monday, there were three battles between the junta armed forces and a combined force of Myaing, Pale and Yinmabin PDFs. According to Myaing PDF, the junta army lost about 14 soldiers.

Taninthayi Region

  • In the eastern area of Dawei, there was an anti-junta movement on Tuesday.
  • In Longlone Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship in Nyinmaw village on Tuesday.
  • In Dawei, the junta armed forces secretly followed a student of Distance Education at Dawei University and arrested him on Tuesday morning.

Ayeyarwady Region

  • In Mawlamyeingyun, the townspeople made indoors strike for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • In Kangyidaunt Township, there was a bomb explosion in front of the house of Daw Khin Khin Hla, a pro-military woman in Badaukbin village, at about 8:30 am Tuesday.

Kachin State

  • In Pha-Kant, residents of Lonekhine group made a protest against the military dictatorship.
  • In Nwamlant village of Moemauk Township, the junta armed forces (88) and (616) apologized with 21 lakhs to the family members of a 50-year old woman who had been raped and killed the previous week.

Kayah State

  • According to PKPF on Tuesday, the number of IDPs increased with additional 2600 people from 7 villages as the battles started again in Kayah State.
  • Chin State
  • According to CDF, about 200 junta soldiers died and 6 military trucks were burnt down in Mindat Township within 45 days from 24th April to 8th June.
  • Mindat Township IDP Camps Management Committee requested distribution of the relief aid, brought by the UN and partner organizations for Mindat, up to the houses in remote villages and the IDP camps.
  • On Tuesday morning, the distribution of humanitarian aid for Mindat, brought by UNHCR, would be allowed only at the IDP camps in town under the permission of the military junta. Therefore, no assistance could be provided for the IDPs in villages and forests.

Nay Pyi Taw

  • To prevent the huge impact of COVID-19 third wave in Myanmar, the military junta released an announcement calling on the public to recite Yadana Paritta as much as possible at home.
  • · Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Minister of Health- NUG, told Mizzima that there were over 5000 people who were receiving health care for COVID-19 via telecommunication every day.
  • The UN office in Myanmar announced that WHO, UNICEF and partner organizations had been putting efforts into getting COVID-19 vaccines for 20% of Myanmar’s population in 2021.
  • According to the United Nations, COVID-19 infection in Myanmar has been increasing at an alarming rate and responses are being made with great momentum.

Summary on 21st July

  • Despite arrests in Yangon due to information leakage, there were still guerrilla protests. The public has been losing the right to get medical treatment due to poor management of the military junta in the pandemic. The number of fatalities has been increasing as well.
  • In Mandalay, there were prejudicial arrests of medical doctors. No matter what, various forces expressed their desire against the military dictatorship without fail.
  • In Magwe Region, public protests regained momentum in most areas. As for other states and regions, they had almost no protests.
  • The junta leader called for the cooperation of medical doctors and CSOs in the fight against COVID-19. But in reality, the military junta has been arresting them with prejudice. They can afford just to utter the words which religious leaders have to say. It is crystal clear that they cannot do anything concerning administration.
