The Military Council

  • According to the junta newspaper, U Hla Moe, the junta union minister of Cooperatives and Rural Development, joined 2021 Global Rural Development Forum held in China.
  • At the meeting on the peace process in Kayin State, Saw Myint Oo, the junta chief minister, said that it was necessary to focus on regional peace and reducing armed conflicts.
  • According to the junta media, the opening ceremony of YMBA office was held together with donations at YMBA religious hall in the north of Shwe Dagon Pagoda in Bahan Township. Present on the occasion were the junta chief minister of Yangon Region and the junta regional military officer.
  • Among prisoners released by the military junta, there were many journalists from all over the country; those working for media agencies, freelance journalists and citizen journalists.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN-NUG, received the John McCain Freedom Award by the U.S International Republican Institute (IRI) on Wednesday.
  • Acting President of the NUG said that they had been trying their best for those who were unjustly detained in prisons, contributors to the end of the military dictatorship and establishment of federal democracy, and the people from IDP camps to peacefully reunite with their family members.
  • Acting President of the NUG called on soldiers, police and departmental officials to reflect on their sacrifices for the military junta, led by Min Aung Hlaing, on the special occasion of Thadingyut and join the public as soon as possible.
  • At the meeting of the NUG, the Acting President said that decision of ASEAN and the pressure on the military junta brought a happy day for the public in sadness. In terms of policies calling for economic sanctions, it was necessary to take caution with the things which might have major negative impacts on the people at the grassroots level.
  • The Acting President said that the NUG was 6 months old now and thus, it was necessary to reflect on successes, failures and challenges throughout the term and try the best for the victory of the revolution as soon as possible.
  • Man Win Khine Than, Prime Minister of the NUG, said that activities of their government have become more systematic as Ministry of Home Affairs set up interim administration committees of CDM police, CDM firefighters and CDM general administration staff.
  • Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than said that it was necessary to plan for successe in 3 months to come and generate ideas for the successful ending of the revolution in 6 months.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights-NUG, said that the military junta kept playing the old trick on the international community due to their pressure and thus, it was necessary to increase such pressure.

Revolution Activities

  • Local People Defence Force (Taungoo) announced that those who leave the military junta and join the public in Taungoo of Bago Region would get a financial reward of 3 million Kyats.
  • There is a video released in which a civilian was beaten by two junta soldiers in the open sun at No. (10) basic military training camp in Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region. Reportedly, it was another piece of evidence for war crimes by the military junta.
  • As a 255-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning, holding signs - “The dictatorship must be burnt down with revolutionary flames of Thadingyut”.
  • On Wednesday, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East conducted their 224-day protest against the military dictatorship.
  • In Chaung-U Township, Ba-Ka-Tha students’ union expressed their desire on Wednesday, calling on the public to take part in the second wave of the revolution against the military dictatorship.
  • At about 8:15 pm Tuesday, 2 trucks and 3 cars of the junta army were attacked with mines by Tantsi PDF. Reportedly, two of the vehicles were damaged.
  • In Shwebo Township, local people marched in support of the NUG on Wednesday morning. They also expressed their desire against the military dictatorship.
  • In Tigyaint township, the junta armed forces in two 6-wheel trucks were attacked with mines by local PDF at 1:40 pm Tuesday.
  • In Mandalay, a combined rally of District Students’ Union and BEGSC marched on Wednesday for the emergence of federal union, the release of all political prisoners and the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • On Tuesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led a night strike against the military dictatorship.
  • On Wednesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • According to local residents, there was an explosion between Mandalay district court and Chanaye Thazan township court at about 6:00 am Wednesday.
  • A guerrilla force warned buyers and sellers that they had prepared 5 mines for Mandalay gems trade camp.
  • On Wednesday, Mandalay Basic Education Students’ Union led a guerrilla protest against the military dictatorship, chanting “Support the defensive war. There must be war for peace”.
  • In Myeik of Taninthayi Region, there was an explosion in the NLD office (Myeik District) at about 12:30 am Wednesday. Reportedly, there were some damage to the building and near the gate.
  • In Longlone Township, youth carried out a night strike against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • On Wednesday, Yangon youth hung a banner at Insein overhead bridge, “The junta will not leave alive. The junta pillars will not die well”.
  • In Kyimyindine Township, Ba-Ka-Tha Central expressed their desire, hanging an anti-junta banner as a full moon revolution.
  • In Hakha Township of Chin State, a convoy of 35 military trucks arrived at Chuncung village at about 10:00 am Wednesday. As they fire ammunition, local residents had to run away.
  • According to local residents, Ye Yint Thu, second captain of the junta army (268) withdrew over 200 lakh Kyats at Pha-Lan police station for the salaries of his army. He then stole the money and eloped with his girlfriend.
  • In Hleku Township of Yangon Region, the interim public administration team was established on Wednesday.
  • At about 2:00 am Wednesday, Paungti PDF attacked the junta army providing security for a MyTel telecom tower in Thitpoat village.
  • In Pathein of Ayeyarwaddy Region, Ko Cho Win, allegedly an informer to the junta in Ward 5, was shot by a local guerrilla force at about 7:30 am Wednesday.
  • In Pha-Kant, with an internet blackout, local residents conducted a lighting strike against the military dictatorship on Tuesday night.
  • The fighter jets from Magwe air-base have been flying every night. Moreover, junta soldiers have been opening gunfire in some wards of Magwe at midnight. Consequently, local residents are worried.
  • In Taungoo Township of Bago Region and Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, no less than 5 young people were arrested by the junta armed forces.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • Soldier Ko Htike from the junta army (545) joined the MNDAA. He said that there were also other army members who wanted to leave the military junta.
  • According to KNU Regiment (5), there was a fighting against the junta army in Pha-Pun of Kayin State. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • In the land clearance operation, MNDAA found dead bodies of 18 junta soldiers and confiscated some weapons on Tuesday evening.

Summary on 20th October

  • The NUG has been thinking for the successful ending of the revolution in the next 6 months. It is likely that the international community will put more pressure on the military junta.
  • On the other hand, the military junta has been conducting extreme oppression in Chin and Sagaing to regain control of the areas. Such activities may bring a great loss to them.
  • As for Mandalay, it regained great momentum in protests against the military dictatorship. In Sagaing, there were still public protests and powerful revolution activities. In other states and regions such as Yangon, Ayeyarwaddy, Bago, Magwe and Mon, there were guerrilla protests as well as activities of guerrilla revolution.
