The Military Council

  • According to junta media, Cambodia provided assistance to Myanmar for treatment and control of COVID-19.
  • According to junta newspaper, the junta Yangon Chief Minister and other members had been inspecting the places where oxygen plants were being built and the oxygen plants which started operation in Yangon Region, and they had been taking measures to prevent a shortage of oxygen in the region.
  • According to junta media, major general Tin Aung San, the junta Minister of Transportation and Communication, instructed Director of National Cyber Security Center to take special caution in their activities as cyber security plays an important role in information and technology age.
  • U Khin Yi, the junta Minister of Immigration, said that the E-ID Population Registry would be implemented systematically for the process of issuing household lists and national registration cards via Pankhin project.
  • According to junta media, the junta ministries have been discussing the use of biofuels and other thermal energy instead of natural gas and electricity to resume state-owned factories.
  • The military junta announced again that they would give mercy on the staff and citizens who had run away out of a sense of worry, except for those who had been accused of conducting violence in protests and those who got involved deeply in supporting CDM staff financially or in any other ways.
  • The military junta announced on Friday that the convoy of military trucks had not been attacked with mines in Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region.
  • After the NUG announced that they would broadcast a radio programme on Friday, the military junta gave instructions to confiscate radios from the shops and restrict the import of radios from China. Reportedly, the radios from Gamone Pwint department store were confiscated in Yangon.
  • In Alone army town of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces brought a Buddha image from Mandalay on Friday as a ritual to sustain their operation of administration.
  • According to local residents of Mindat Township in Chin State, the junta armed forces raided Thayetkone and Tonecane villages on Wednesday. They broke into houses and stole money. They also destroyed other things and set motorbikes on fire.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Via social media, the NUG called for reports on the situation of being tuned to Radio NUG all across the country on Friday morning.
  • Together with the public from all walks of life, political groups, CSOs and especially staff members of public service departments protested against the military dictatorship. Mai Win Htoo, Deputy Minister of Federal Union Affairs - NUG, said that they honored those CDM heroes.
  • Acting President of the NUG officially submitted a statement of agreement to the court, with regard to the judiciary of ICC where Min Aung Hlaing and the military junta would have to face charges for their war crimes, including genocide on Rohingya people in Rakhine State and ethnic people in other states.
  • According to People’s Soldier section on Thursday, they had the list of over 500 soldiers who would join the CDM within a month if the NUG could provide help for their safety.
  • On 5th August, a National Health Committee was established as the outcome of National Health Conference, jointly organized by Ministry of Health - NUG and ethnic health organizations. It comprises 17 members, according to the announcement of the NUG.
  • The NUG announced that 70% of lottery sales would go to supporting CDM staff members and the remaining 30% would be allocated as prize money. Those who win the lottery could donate back their prize money, which would be used for important activities of the NUG.

Revolution Activities

  • On Friday, a rally of Monywa-Amyint rural community marched against the military dictatorship, “Only NUG is the public’s government”.
  • As a 163-day protest, a combined rally of Yinmabin Township and Salingyi Township expressed their objection to the military dictatorship on Friday afternoon.
  • As a sign for the victory of PDFs, Latbadaung Taung General Strike conducted eugenia strike on Friday.
  • On Friday, Kalay townspeople marched for recognition of the NUG in the international community and against the military dictatorship.
  • On Friday morning, Monywa people marched in the rain and protested against the military dictatorship, chanting “Our blood will never cool down for the downfall of the military junta”.
  • On Friday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • According to local residents of Kyaukse, Aye Min Mg, allegedly Pyusawti member, was stabbed to death near Yepyitgyi village cemetery at about 12:00 am Thursday.
  • On Friday morning, anti-junta youth in Mandalay removed barricades of the military junta on roads.
  • On Friday morning, a rally of Mandalay variety force expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • During shopping time regarded by the military junta, a rally of Mandalay people made a protest in the market on Friday morning.
  • A rally of Seinban marched against the military dictatorship on Friday morning.
  • On Friday morning, a rally of Aungmye Thazan Schools marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • Amidst various restrictions and violent crackdowns in Mandalay, a rally of LGBTIQ marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Friday morning.
  • On Friday, a rally of Mandalay University Students’ Union expressed their desire against the military dictatorship.
  • On Friday morning, Mandalay Monks’ Union expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
  • In Taungdwingyi of Magwe Region, the junta armed forces arrested 3 men from Taungpyin Ward (1) and (2); Ko Hla Win Aung, Ko Win Nyein and Ko Min Khine, at about 12:00 am Friday.
  • In Gantgaw Township, local PDF made an attack on a military truck with mines on Amataw-Gantgaw road on Thursday.
  • At about 6:30 am Thursday, 100 junta soldiers raided the base camp of Yezagyo PDF. PDF members managed to escape from them and there were no casualties.
  • In Myothit Township of Magwe Region, farmers made a farming strike against the military dictatorship on Friday afternoon.
  • In Insein Township of Yangon Region, Nyi Htwe, a clerk at the administration office in Taungthugone Ward, was shot in his head and died at about 6:00 pm Thursday.
  • On Friday, a rally of Yangon youth expressed their desire against the military dictatorship.
  • In Loikaw of Karenni State, at least 12 people, who had been helping the IDPs, were arrested starting from 16th August. According to local residents, those people were being faced with the investigation of the junta armed forces.
  • After U Win Naing Oo, allegedly junta informer, was killed in Athoat of Ayeyarwady Region, the junta armed forces raided the houses of NLD members in charge of wards and arrested them for no apparent reason.
  • On Friday, a rally of Dawei youth marched against the military dictatorship, chanting “Support the NUG for the downfall of the junta devils”.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to MNDAA, the junta armed forces sent about 40 members of Koekant-based people’s army to the frontline to attack MNDAA.
  • On Thursday night, there was a clash between KNDO and the junta armed forces-BGF invading the area under the influence of KNU. According to KNDO source, the firing of RPG happened mistakenly among the junta army and BGF members. Consequently, no less than 23 of them died.
  • Via social media, the former chief of PNO, threatened Pao ethnic youth, who had been protesting against the activities of PNO/PNA in cooperation with the military junta, saying they would be stabbed to death.
  • In Muse Township, there were battles between MNDAA and the junta armed forces at some places, including Pansai police station, on Friday morning.
  • In Monekoe of Shan North, there was a heavy fighting between MNDAA and the junta armed forces on Wednesday evening as a combined force of the junta army invaded Monekoe-based camp of MNDAA.

Summary on 20th August

  • At the time of low investment, the military junta tried to restrict imports. However, only the black market followed their action. They thought of resuming the factories which were stopped for their products of low quality with a lack of market demand. They also tried to bring life to the policy of the former military government - “Double the amount of products”. Regarding it, they seem to have difficulties with fuel and electricity supplies. The junta leaders had been discussing the solution to that problem. Judging from such action, the junta ministers had no new ideology. They just used unsuccessful ideas from the former administration.
  • As for the NUG, they had been trying to get closer to the public with radio, after the lottery. They expressed words of encouragement and support to CDM staff members. They had also been trying to bring life to their ministries and to have direct communication with the public. Moreover, they submitted an official statement of agreement to the judiciary of ICC where the military junta had to face legal charges.
  • In Sagaing Region, the Spring Revolution was in great momentum. As for the junta armed forces, they oppressed local residents. The momentum of Sagaing spread to Magwe Region. The armed revolution became powerful in Magwe. Amidst oppression, Mandalay rallies did not lose their momentum. In Chin, Kayar, Kayin and Kachin, fighting broke out often and thus, the number of IDPs was on the rise.
  • As the junta armed forces strengthened their manpower in Shan North, there were battles between MNDAA and the junta army. The same was true for Kayin State.
