The Military Council

  • According to the junta newspaper, the military junta declared amnesty for (80) people who had been unjustly arrested and detained in Mandalay central prison.
  • The junta newspaper said that among (647) people who had been unjustly arrested and detained in Insein Prison, 150 prisoners were released on Monday evening and the rest would be released on Tuesday morning.
  • According to the junta media, the meeting of the COVID-19 Economic Relief Working Committee was held via video conferencing at office No. (1) under the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Relations.
  • After the junta leader, Min Aung Hlaing said that prisoners would be released, (34) people were released from Meiktila Prison on Monday evening. Among them, 11 people were arrested again under the law of terrorism or other sections.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Following the right to self-defence, the public has been taking part in the People’s Defensive War. According to the NUG, there were attacks at 11 military targets of the enemy, 12 administration targets and 6 business targets on Monday.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights- NUG, said that it was not thankful to the military junta for closing lawsuits and declaring amnesty for those who had suffered human rights violations after the coup.
  • In his speech at the UN, U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, said that the junta armed forces had been silencing the public by force since the coup on 1st February.
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun said that the action of the Myanmar junta army was a crime against humanity. As people are entitled to the full enjoyment of basic human rights, freedom and defence, he wanted to know recommendations to the international community and other stakeholders concerning the protection of the rights of those who had been arrested and detained in Myanmar.

Revolution Activities

  • Tom Andrews, Special Rapporteur of the UN on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, said that he welcomed the release of prisoners by the military junta. However, it was just because of local and international pressure, not because of the military junta changing their attitude.
  • On Tuesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • On Tuesday morning, there was a bomb explosion near the junta police taking security at Mandalay gems ground.
  • In Kantbalu Township of Sagaing Region, MEC sugar factory and liquor factory, owned by the junta army, had to stop their operation as local PDF blew up 33KV power supplies to them.
  • In Butalin Township, local people made a guerrilla motorbike strike against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • As 223-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In the village of Shwebo Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.
  • On Tuesday morning, Kalay people expressed their desire against the military dictatorship.
  • In Salingyi Township, some villagers made a night strike against the military dictatorship on Monday, banging pots and pans.
  • In Ayadaw Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines between Parami village and Kyabinhla village on 15th October. Reportedly, local revolution group lost two members.
  • In Tantsi Township, some junta soldiers were attacked with mines between two villages at about 9:00 am Tuesday.
  • In Kantbalu Township, Aung Thu Tun, a USDP member and pro-military person, was shot on Sunday. According to Kantbalu Underground Warriors, he ran into the police station.
  • In Longlone Township, rural community conducted an indoor strike against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • At about 8:00 am Tuesday, Tain Linn, USDP advocate and junta informer in Myeik Township, was shot dead.
  • In Longlone Township, the junta armed forces arrested 9 villagers at about 9:00 pm Sunday.
  • In Insein Township of Yangon Region, students expressed their desire on Tuesday, chanting “Support the defensive war. There must be a war for peace”.
  • Holding flaming torches, South Dagon rally marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • United Democratic Force (UDF) announced on Monday that they had blown up MyTel telecom tower in Sapalgyi village of Kawmu Township at about 7:00 pm Sunday.
  • Concerning the case of putting leaves in Pitot Tube of Air KBZ, one of the flight engineers died in the investigation due to the violence of the junta army.
  • According to Hlaingthaya CGF, they blew up the administration office of Ward (9) at about 8:00 pm Monday to show that their blood was not cooling down for the revolution.
  • In Yangon, highway delivery services are being strict with the ban on transporting medicines to Chin, Sagaing and Magwe.
  • On Tuesday, there was a guerrilla protest against the military dictatorship in a village of Pakkoku.
  • In Thayet Township of Magwe Region, there were exchanges of fire between the junta army and a combined force of local PDFs. PDF Thayet announced on Tuesday that 3 junta soldiers died in the incident.
  • In Phaya Thonesu of Kayin Township, a combined rally of Iron Roses and local residents conducted a lighting strike against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Phalan Township of Chin State, the junta armed forces set fire to a house in Talanyawl village and destroyed things in the church the previous day.
  • In Paungti Township, an administrator of Zibinhla village group was shot dead at about 7:00 pm Monday.
  • According to a member of Area (14), they blew up MyTel telecom tower, owned by the military junta, in Ward (4) of Pathein in Ayeyarwaddy Region at about 6:00 am Tuesday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Pansai Township of Shan North, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and MNDAA at about 12:45 pm Tuesday.
  • At about 9:30 am Monday, there was a battle between the junta army and KIA on Muse-Kutkai road.

Summary on 20th October

  • Among the prisoners released by the military junta, some of them were arrested again on their way home and others on arrival at home. They were regarded as important in their areas. On the other hand, key prisoners were not released. The military junta just declared amnesty for some people due to local and international pressure. By doing so just for show, they might think that they would get recognized in the international community.
  • The armed revolution expanded from the upcountry to the midland. Even in silent towns, there were guerrilla activities and local PDFs with strong networks. As for some forces, they could carry even battle rifles.
  • As for Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing, Kayin, Mon, Ayeyarwaddy, Bago and Magwe, they had public protests and activities of guerrilla revolution.
