Summary on 20th July

  • In Yangon, there were more protests as it was Martyrs’ Day. There were anti-junta movements in most townships. As there are limitations to the number of COVID-19 patients to get treatment at the junta hospitals, the public has been dealing with the pandemic at home on their own. At such a time, it is disgusting for the public that the military junta pretended to be patients and arrested volunteer doctors. There is still the need for oxygen in Yangon due to COVID-19.
  • In Mandalay, there were more public protests against the military dictatorship in the various township as it was the Martyrs’ Day.
  • In Sagaing Region and Taninthayi Region, public protests were more powerful than as usual. Almost every township in Sagaing made anti-junta movements. There were also junta-pillar clearance activities by Sagaing local PDFs. In addition, there were frequent battles against the junta armed forces. Reportedly, both sides lost their members in the fighting.
  • In other states and regions, there were almost no protests. The public has been struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic on its own. In Kayah State, there were clashes between local PDFs and the junta armed forces. Therefore, battles might break out anytime these days.
  • In recent days, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that oxygen was sufficient. Likewise, he claimed again that there were sufficient eggs. It was clear that he just looked at the documents presented to him, without analyzing the situation in the whole country. Their words and performance in the crisis can be judged to know whether the military junta are qualified enough for the administration of the country. Let alone ample eggs, there are not sufficient eggs even in their junta army. The same is true for oxygen.
