The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At 4:00 pm on Wednesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Interim Public Administration Implementation Team (Central) and the Committee Representing the Magwe Regional Hluttaw.
  • In a press conference on Wednesday, the NUG Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment said that they had earned a fund worth $42 million USD so far in the revolutionary period and most of it had come from the sale of bonds which accounted for $37 million USD.
  • The NUG Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment stated that it had earned up to $5 million USD from the sale of shares for the property confiscated by the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing on No. (14) Inlya Road.
  • With Order No. (11/2022), the Acting President of the NUG announced that township judges had been appointed in 15 townships and court judiciary powers had been given to them. 

Revolutionary Activities

  • According to Our Spring Heroes, bonds could be bought for those who had lost their lives in the battle to take control of the junta army camp in Thaybawboe.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, a rally of students and local residents marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Longlone Township, the Rosy Women Union led a protest against the military dictatorship on Thursday morning.
  • In a village in Longlone Township, youths marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Thursday, holding anti-junta signs.
  • On 15 May, the Eastern Dawei PDF conducted an attack on the junta army at the Dawei-Tiki road intersection. Reportedly, no less than 20 junta soldiers, including an officer, died.
  • In Yangon, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Thursday, where slogans for a Federal Union were chanted.
  • In Ayadaw Township in Sagaing Region, a troop of 20 junta soldiers was attacked with mines by a local guerrilla force on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, five junta soldiers, including a captain, died and seven others were seriously injured.
  • On their 435 th day of protest, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Shwebo Township, a rally of Shwe Kun Myay marched for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Mandalay, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Thursday, together with an anti-junta banner.
  • In Myitkyina in Kachin State, There was an anti-junta protest where a banner was hung saying: ‘Continue the revolution with public unity’.
  • In Myaing Township in Magwe Region, junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members raided Pantaidaw Village at 7:30 am on Thursday firing shots. Reportedly, they also set fire to houses.
  • In Paungte in Bago Region, a member of the NLD lost their life during interrogation on Thursday.
  • In Hpakant in Kachin State, local people marched for the KIA, PDF and NUG on Thursday. They also protested against the military dictatorship.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • On the Shan-Karenni border, a combined force of the KNDF and PDFs attacked the junta army invading Seemelaw Village. In the battle on Wednesday, a member of Pekone PDF sacrificed his life for the public.
  • Reportedly, a team led by the RCSS leader Yawd Serk left Tachileik for Nay Pyi Taw by air to attend the peace discussions that they were invited to by the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • In the Wawlaymyaing Area of Kayin State, a combined force of the KNLA and Cobra attacked and took control of the junta army camp in Thaybawboe on Wednesday morning.
  • Reportedly, six junta soldiers were caught with weapons.

The Military Council

  • The junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that peace discussions would be held on Friday with 10 ethnic armed organizations.
  • According to the military junta, it is just a rumor that there will be shortage of fuel oil in the local market. They stated that ships carrying fuel oil had been arriving constantly at ports.
  • According to the junta propaganda leader, it was fake news that local business owners were not allowed to go abroad and some of them were in detention.
  • The junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the decision of Britain to reduce the level of diplomatic relations when they sent a charge d'affaires to replace the ambassador.
  • The junta propaganda leader said that they were just maintaining the situation as they did not want Rakhine people to get into trouble. He also warned Arakan Army-AA not to blame the junta army in case of any problem.
  • In Myawaddy Township in Kayin State, the junta army had to surrender their Thaybawboe camp. After that, they bombed the Laykaykaw Area with fighter jets on Thursday morning. Reportedly, three PDF members were injured and one of them was in critical condition.
  • In a downtown area of Yangon, streets were blocked off and there was tight security measures by the junta armed forces for a rally supporting the junta army and the peace process by Min Aung Hlaing.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing gave an order that government employees were to only retire at the age of 62. This means that 2,841 staff members aged 60 will have to continue their service.
  • On Thursday morning, the junta army took away the supervisor of Shwecin Academy Gold and Jewelry in Yangon and interrogated them.
  • The junta propaganda leader said that $1 billion USD of state-owned money banned by the U.S, had already entered the country.

Summary on 20 May

  • The military junta stated that peace discussions with ethnic armed organisations (EAOs) would be held on Friday. Reportedly, leaders of the EAOs without battles would attend it. Actually, it is just a superficial event, which could not silence gunfire.
  • The junta propaganda leader responded to the Arakan Army (AA) with challenging words. He also said that it was just the locals who had to suffer the consequences of armed conflicts. It implies that the junta army would kill civilians, set fire to houses and conduct rapes in Rakhine State.
  • In Kayin State, the KNU forces have been attacking and taking control of junta army camps. Reportedly, a large number of junta soldiers, together with weapons, were caught. Without the ability to give support on the ground, the military junta just provided superficial air strikes.
  • In Magwe, Sagaing, Karenni and Tanintharyi, there were battles between the junta army and local PDFs. Reportedly, both sides lost members.
