The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Union Minister of Women, Youth and Children-NUG was awarded with the FBR Gold Medal by the Free Burma Rangers.
  • Ministry of Labour-NUG announced that they would collect data related to losses of workers in the interim and develop a reporting mechanism to gain the rights contained in employer and labour laws as well as to negotiate labour affairs, their health and occupational safety.
  • On Thursday, One Day Challenge made their 6th donation worth 100,000 USD to the NUG.
  • On Friday, Ministry of Electricity and Energy-NUG released an announcement about the temporary transfer to EROs, Public’s Administration and PDFs in states according to policies on taxation and sharing.

Revolution Activities

  • In Seoul, South Korea, supporters of the Spring Revolution protested against the military dictatorship in front of the Russian Embassy. They also showed that they stand with Ukrainian people.
  • At 6:00 am Saturday, local PDFs attacked the junta army invading Hnawgone Village on he Sagaing-Magwe border. Reportedly, about 20 junta soldiers died.
  • As a 405-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In a village of Yinmabin Township, local people marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • As a 374-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday morning, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, local residents showed their support for the KIA, PDF and NUG on Saturday. They also protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Taninthayi Township of Taninthayi Region, there was fighting between the junta army and local PDF at 6:00 am Saturday. As junta soldiers fired mortars, local people had to run away.
  • On Saturday, Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas for the safety of the public and PDFs.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Hopin of Kachin State, there was a heavy fighting between the junta army and a combined force of KIA + PDF near Nantyin Stream, starting from 7:30 am Saturday.
  • In Kalay Township of Sagaing Region, a member of CNDF was killed by the junta army near Sitha Village, according to CNDF on Friday.
  • In Myitkyina Township of Kachin State, there was a heavy fighting between the junta army and the KIA near (21) Mile Inspection Camp, starting from 4:00 am Saturday.
  • In the south of Kawkarait, there were exchanges of fire between the KNLA and a combined force of the junta army + BGF invading the area to support the Anhagyi Police Camp on Friday night.
  • According to some leaders of the KNU, their 17th Congress will be held at the end of March or in April.

The Military Council

  • Min Aung Hlaing, the junta leader and chair of the finance commission, said that the country would invest in essentials for health and security.
  • Through a virtual Zoom meeting, there were presentations by the junta secretary of the central committee on commerce and trade flow, deputy minister of economics and commerce, vice chair of the junta Central Bank and other responsible personnel.
  • According to Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC), electricity would be provided to industrial zones in Yangon Region from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and there would be a power outage for the rest of the day.
  • Like previous years, there would be a Thingyan traditional dance contest at Yangon City Central Pandal for the water festival in the 1383 Myanmar calendar year. Reportedly, registration can be made at the engineering department of the Yangon City Development Committee in Bodataung Township from 19 to 31 March.
  • The military junta set up a working committee on monitoring, maintaining and overseeing gold and financial markets for the stability of those markets, an important role in local and foreign trade.
  • Central Committee on Prevention, Treatment and Control of COVID-19 announced that the entry of international tourists would be allowed starting from 17 April.
  • According to the junta embassy staff for labour affairs, Temporary Data Collection Center – TDCC would be reopened in Mahachai of Mueang Samut Sakhon District, Thailand starting from 21 March.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that an emergency fund worth 135 billion MMK had been set for the prevention, rescue and rehabilitation related to unpredictable natural disasters in the 2022-23 fiscal year.
  • The military junta announced that international flights would be allowed again starting from 17 April, Myanmar’s new year day, after nearly 2 years of restrictions due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Summary on 19 March

  • To show as if the country were in normal operation and the public were having fun, the military junta instructed responsible personnel of states and regions to carry out activities for the water festival in April. They also arranged for the entry of international tourists.
  • In Kachin State, there were heavy battles between the junta armed forces and the KIA. As for Sagaing, Karenni, Karen and Chin, they also had battles against the junta army. Consequently, the number of IDPs was on the rise and they were in urgent need of assistance.
  • Reportedly, there were some protests in Sagaing and Mandalay. There may have been protests in other states and regions but the news did not get out due to internet blackouts in some areas.
