The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Acting President said that the NUG had a great honour for the public who had fought against the military dictatorship in various ways for the whole year with strong determination not to let them rule the country.
  • Acting President of the NUG said that those who had lost their lives on the streets during peaceful protests, those who had died in interrogation and prisons of the military junta, comrades who had sacrificed their lives on battlefields and those who had been injured were the public’s heroes, whom the public would always remember. In addition, they deserve a great honour of the State Government some time in the future.
  • In their statement in memory of the coup, CRPH announced on Tuesday that it was necessary for the international community to put pressure on their sanctions against the military junta.
  • Acting President of the NUG sent best wishes to all Chinese people all over the world on their New Year’s Day.
  • Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than said that today marked a year of the Myanmar people losing freedom, justice and hope due to a group of dictators with a thirst for power. It was also a year since the public made a decision to reject the military dictatorship and fight against it.
  • Union Prime Minister of the NUG said that they salute all of those who had lost their lives in the fight against the military coup. He also expressed a great honour for those in detention, the oppressed, those who had to run away from home, those whose houses were burnt or sealed off and many more.
  • Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun said that with unity of all people, the revolution would continue for the downfall of the military junta, who have been carrying out various forms of oppression of the public.

Revolution Activities

  • In Kyaukbadaung, a local resident named Ko Aung Aung expressed his disapproval of the military dictatorship by burning himself. Reportedly, he was likely to lose life although he was sent to hospital.
  • With strong determination, Mandalay people joined the Silent Strike against the military dictatorship. Until 2:30 pm, there were very few people or vehicles on the streets.
  • In Pyin Oo Lwin and Nay Pyi Taw Lewe, so-called army towns due to a large number of the junta armed forces, there were silent strikes against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Ngatogyi, Bagan, Nyaung-U and Mahlaing of Mandalay Region, local people took part in the Silent Strike on Tuesday.
  • On Tuesday, there was a poster somewhere in Maymyo, expressing thanks to all participants in the Silent Strike and best wishes for PDF members.
  • On Tuesday morning, a rally of Mandalay people marched against the military dictatorship, holding a banner - ‘Who dares to live on the opposite side of the public’.
  • In Thatone of Mon State and Lasho of Shan State, local residents took part in the Silent Strike on Tuesday.
  • In Mindat and Phalan of Chin State, and Tamu of Sagaing Region, the public expressed their desire against the military dictatorship in the Silent Strike on Tuesday.
  • In Dibeyin and Tantsi townships, there were silent strikes against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Yinmabin and Salingyi townships, local residents conducted silent strikes on Tuesday.
  • In Sagaing, Kani and Monywa-Amyint community, local people expressed their objection to the military dictatorship in a Silent Strike on Tuesday.
  • In Kawlin and Ye-U townships, local PDFs took security measures at the entrances to towns while the public were on the Silent Strike.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.
  • As a 359-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of the coup.
  • As the earliest dawn march, a combined rally of Monywa University Students’ Union and Latbadaung Taung General Strike, protected by Salingyi PDFs, expressed their desire against the military dictatorship.
  • In a village of Yinmabin Township, local residents marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Nay Pyi Taw and Pyinmana, there were silent strikes against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Laputta and Danuphyu of Ayeyarwaddy Region, local people joined the Silent Strike in memory of the coup.
  • On Monday night, an armed group opened fire at the junta Myawaddy Bank in Muse of Shan State. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • On Tuesday noon, a bomb exploded in Tachileik while there was a pro-military event. Consequently, the junta armed forces fired ammunition wildly and arrested young people and beat them. According to local residents, there were casualties among the public.
  • In Taunggyi and Muse of Shan State, the public joined the Silent Strike in memory of a year of the coup.
  • Due to gunfire of the junta armed forces, two people in a pro-military event died and over 35 people, including former soldiers, were injured.
  • In Myitkyina and Nammati of Kachin State, the townspeople showed their disapproval of the military dictatorship in the Silent Strike on Tuesday.
  • At 6:00 am Tuesday, there was a bomb explosion near No. (30) police force in Lekone Ward in Myitkyina. After that, the junta armed forces shot wildly, causing the death of a 7-year old child named Mg Bone Kant The, who had been sleeping in a house next to the police force quarters. Reportedly, junta soldiers took away his body.
  • In Thonekwa, Khayan, North Okkala and Hlaing Thaya townships of Yangon Region, there were silent strikes on Tuesday.
  • Reportedly, Yangon downtown area was deserted with no cars or people.
  • On Tuesday morning, bombs were found at Tightgyi former soldier housing, Myaungdaga police station, in Hlaingthaya, Mayangone, Tamway and Mingaladone. According to local residents, there were also some cases of explosions.
  • In Yangon, GSC youth rally led a march against the military dictatorship on Tuesday, splashing red paint.
  • In front of Yangon Regional Parliament, youth hung an anti-junta poster - ‘Viva La Revolution, Long Live the Revolution’.
  • In Beelin and Mawlamyein of Mon State, local residents took part in the Silent Strike on Tuesday.
  • In Pyi Township of Bago Region, there was a bomb explosion in the compound of the high school in front of police training school at about 8:20 am Monday. Reportedly, Nyunt Win, a junta police sergeant, died.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • KNDF announced on Tuesday that there had been 110 battles between them and the junta armed forces since June of 2021 after the military coup in February. Reportedly, more than 440 junta soldiers died whereas KNDF lost 20 members. They also said that up to 90% of Karenni State was currently under their control.
  • In Putao Township of Kachin State, a combined force of KIA and PDF conducted an attack on a camp of junta soldiers and the junta people’s army in Swampiyan village at about 10:00 am Tuesday and they managed to take control of it. Reportedly, they set fire to the camp.
  • On Tuesday, KNDF announced that no transportation would be allowed on the Loikaw-Dimawso-Dawtamagyi-Bawlake road for unlimited days.
  • In Kutkhine and Namkham of Shan North, TNLA conducted attacks at the junta camps on the one-year anniversary of the military coup.

The Military Council

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the army was not an organization of self-interest, but an organization for protection of all ethnic people in the union.
  • The junta leader said that campaigns for no schooling by NUG/CRPH and PDFs would make the children uneducated, and it would lead the country and the people into slavery.
  • The military junta announced that U Khin Mg Oo, junta-appointed chief minister of Kayah State, and U Hla Soe, Yangon Regional chief minister, were allowed to resign, and they were replaced by U Zaw Myo Tin and U Soe Thein.
  • The military junta announced that Myint Swe, the junta Acting President, had extended the state of emergency for 6 more months at the meeting of the junta national protection and security council.
  • The junta leader said that efforts would be made to soften the attitudes of the countries that had been treating the military junta as the enemy.
  • The junta leader said that local and international debts increased year by year and it was necessary to reflect on debt resistance.

Summary on 1 February

  • Despite the oppression of the military junta trying to stop the silent strike, the general public took part in it in any possible way throughout the country.
  • As a response to the Silent Strike under the arrangements of the military junta, there were pro-military rallies without any local residents to show there were people on the streets. However, it all ended up in vain.
  • As for Sagaing Region, they had great momentum in the revolution. Reportedly, towns in upper Sagaing were under the control of local PDFs. The same was true for many parts of Magwe Region.
