The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs-NUG, there was a meeting with their Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung, Deputy Minister U Moe Zaw Oo, the Myanmar community in Germany and those interested in Myanmar’s affairs on Sunday.
  • According to the NUG, there was a meeting among their two union ministers, Satellite for Myanmar Democracy, international partner organizations and Pale PDF leader Captain Dragon. Reportedly, they discussed the real situation of ground battles and assistance for the IDPs.
  • According to Ministry of Human Rights-NUG, Ko Hla Min Thein aged 45 from Tamway Ayoegone in Yangon Region was killed by the junta army during interrogation. In Tightgyi Township, junta soldiers shot dead U Htaing Linn, a mentally-ill person, and took away his body, saying that he did not open the door in their check for the overnight guest list.
  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 30 members of the junta armed forces had died and 3 others had been injured on Monday.

Revolution Activities

  • According to Myanmar Police CDM Channel, five members of the junta police, who had died in a mine attack in Tamu of Sagaing Region, were police officer Thaung Myint, deputy officer Win Naing, officer Moe Htet Naing, sergeant Zaw Min Aung and deputy sergeant Kyaw Zin Htike.
  • In Hommalin Township of Sagaing Region, a local PDF started to fight against the junta army on Tuesday. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died.
  • In Monywa Township, the junta army raided Lezin village on Monday evening and set fire to houses. According to local residents, junta soldiers also shot dead four young people and arrested many others.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a local guerrilla force shot a mortar at the junta army stationing in Bantbway village at about 3:30 pm Monday.
  • As a 314-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Khin-U Township, local PDF arrested a drug gang at about 6:00 pm Sunday.
  • In Myaung Township, local people, protected by PDF members, marched against the military dictatorship.
  • As a 345-day protest, Kalay people marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Katha Township, the junta army dropped bombs near Hmattai village via two fighter jets at about 2:30 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, pagodas were damaged.
  • In Beelin Township of Mon State, Ko Win Zaw Oo from Dautyet village was shot dead by the junta army on Monday.
  • In Mawlamyein, the junta army blocked off Belugyun-Chaungsone bridge from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Tuesday and made inspections.
  • In Saw Township of Magwe Region, the junta army raided Kangyi village monastery on Monday and arrested the abbot.
  • In Saw Township, a local PDF made a test shot with a 60MM missile at the Kyauktu junta army at 12:13 am Monday.
  • In Dawei of Taninthayi Region, the Democracy Movement Committee conducted a third campaign warning some shops and restaurants in town not to sell beverages and products of the military junta.
  • In Phakant of Kachin State, there was a march for KIA and PDF on Tuesday. They also expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • In Nay Pyi Taw Tatgone Township, retired Captain Thein Myint, chair of former soldiers’ association, was shot dead in his house at about 3:30 pm Monday. There was also a bomb explosion when regional military officer General Zaw Hein came to his funeral. Reportedly, there were no casualties and some motorbikes were damaged.
  • According to Basic Education General Strike Committee, the military junta had been ill-treating a political leader in a concentration camp in Mandalay palace compound.
  • In Wetlet Township, a combined rally of students’ unions conducted a movement against the junta education.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Phalan Township of Chin State, there was a heavy fighting at about 8:30 am Tuesday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died.
  • In Matupi Township, there were exchanges of fire between the junta army in Htebwe village and local CDF at about 10:30 am Tuesday. Reportedly, a CDF member named Salai Peng Sang was hit with a bullet in his neck and lost his life.
  • KNLA announced on Tuesday that they had conducted an attack on the junta BGF camp In Dwelo Township of Kayin State as the first action against them.
  • In Phapun District under control of KNU Regiment (5), KNLA took control of Mepali camp and burnt it on Sunday. According to Mutraw newsletter, it was the first attack after a final warning made by the KNU.
  • RCSS/SSA stated that they could not accept political dialogues without all-inclusion and that they just want solutions with the inclusion of all stakeholders.
  • At RCSS/SSA Headquarters, there was a graduation of Loi Tai Leng School.

The Military Council

  • Dr. Thet Thet Khine, the junta minister of social welfare, went to KPC IDP camp and RC IDP camp in Winemaw Township. Reportedly, she said that the IDPs need to get vaccinated for control of COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the education level had been low in the tenure of colony and there had been difficulties in education after independence due to local rebels.
  • In his meeting with the junta education department, Min Aung Hlaing said that it was necessary to do whatever with goodwill to be a fair administration.
  • The junta minister of information told MRTV staff that the public play a vital role in building democracy and thus, it was necessary to carry out activities via media for public’s access to the right information.
  • The junta ministry of health announced that there had been 118 cases of Omicron variant infection in Myanmar up to Monday.
  • The junta newspaper falsely claimed that the NUG and PDF had killed monks.

Summary on 18 January

  • The military junta arrested political activists and conducted a variety of inhumane activities. They have been committing war crimes by killing with prejudice. Those in good shape at the time of arrest lost their lives the following day.
  • As for PDFs in Sagaing Region, they made progress in mortar production. There were discussions between the NUG and local PDF leader Captain Dragon. Consequently, the revolution might gain more momentum there.
  • As there were heavy battles in Chin, Kayin and Karenni, the public should contribute to provide assistance to those in need in those areas.
  • The military junta might face another difficulty as RCSS/SSA, a signed member of ceasefire agreement, said that they just want solutions with the inclusion of all stakeholders.
  • The military junta tend to be silent when their armed forces kill monks or destroy pagodas and religious buildings. Rather than fighting against the NUG and PDF, they have been abusing religions and culture.
