Spring Revolution Daily News for 19 August 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • According to the Ministry of Defence-NUG, there were 439 battles in Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magwe Region and Northern Shan State in July. Reportedly, 400 junta soldiers died and 574 others were injured. 
  • On Thursday, Ministry of Defence-NUG sent a statement to the 75th Karenni Army Day that it would soon be time of the revolution to uproot the military dictatorship. 
  • At 10:00 am Thursday, the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration conducted a meeting. 
  • On Thursday afternoon, there was a meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and the District People’s Administration. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Kalay Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to Thazi Village on Wednesday and Thursday. Reportedly, over 50 houses were burnt to ashes. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe led an anti-junta march on Friday. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a local rally of ‘Let’s not step back in this revolution’ protested against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Myinmu Township, there were five mine attacks on a junta convoy on Monywa-Mandalay Road at about 5:00 am on 15 August. 
  • In Salingyi Township, the S&C Social Group provided food to the displaced people on Friday. 
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta administration office and combined office in Butalin and the junta army destroying public’s property in Nwarchangone Village of Kani Township. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Shwebo, there was a grenade attack on the junta army on their way to the junta agricultural office at about 1:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • On entrance to Shwebo, there was an attack on the junta soldiers and their ration vehicle at about 3:00 pm on 15 August. Reportedly, there were casualties. 
  • In Myaung Township, the junta army based in Kyautyit Village invaded Myasan Village on Thursday morning. Reportedly, over 5000 local people had to run away. 
  • In Yangon, anti-junta youth led a campaign for the boycott of the junta army products. 
  • Kayan PDF released a video of their inspection on the road for public safety. They also called on the public to take part in the campaign – ‘Spring comrades march towards the urban’. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, there were two local battles at about 10:00 am Thursday. Reportedly, about 10 junta soldiers died and many others were injured. 
  • In Pakkoku Township, there was an attack on the junta inspection gate in Ashay Konekan Village at 9:30 am on 14 August. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers including an officer might have died. 
  • In Bamaw of Kachin State, the junta army shot mortars into local villages along the river bank on Friday morning on the arrival of the junta fleet. 
  • On Thursday, H & M, the world’s second largest fashion-design clothes company, told Reuters that they would leave Myanmar by stopping their local activities gradually. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, the revolution forces attacked the camp of the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (343) stationing in Ywathitgone Village at about 9:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died and 6 others were injured. 
  • In Fruso Township of Karenni State, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing via fighter jet on the church in Tithawku Village. Reportedly, the religious building, a non-military target, was damaged. 
  • In Kutkhine Township under Ta’ang Brigade (5) in Northern Shan State, there was a battle between the junta army and Ta’ang National Liberation Army near Mainglu Village on Thursday afternoon. 
  • In Thanglang Township of Chin State, 15 junta soldiers died and weapons were confiscated in Tilim Operation 02 by local CDF. 
  • In Titain, 3 houses in town were damaged on Thursday night due to mortars fired by the junta army. 
  • In Nyaunglebin District of Kawthoolei Administrative Area under Karen National Union (KNU), 6 people lost their lives and 7 others were injured from 13 to 16 August due to the human rights violations of the junta army. 
  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, the junta army conducted aerial bombing via fighter jets on Mount Latkhat Camp controlled by Karen National Liberation Army and the PDF on Friday afternoon. 
  • On Friday, Karenni Nationalities Defence Force announced that the public were to be cautious of local battles and they were not to use Demoso-Fruso Road due to the military situation. 

The Military Council 

  • On Thursday, the junta minister of foreign economic relations and the junta minister of information joined the GMS Meeting held in Yunnan Province of China. 
  • Starting from 25 August, the students who passed the 2023 matriculation exam can reportedly apply for the junta medical universities and other related ones. 
  • The military junta would reportedly include 20000-MMK bank notes in the payment of salaries for the government staff in the upcoming months. They also reduced the publication of 10000-MMK ones. 
  • On Friday morning, a freight train (924) derailed between Taw Gwe In and Kanyutkwin of Bago Region as it hit a mine on the way from Mandalay to Yangon. Reportedly, the railway will be closed for two days. 
  • According to the junta water resources management department, they would temporarily close the waterway during the activities of 132KV power grid over the Ayeyarwady River. 
  • Starting from 18 August, the junta Embassy in Thailand announced that they would collect only 1250 baht for the passport booklets, not 250 baht for OWIC, from the MOU workers and PJ passport holders when renewing their passports. 
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, Shanni National Army under the military junta shot heavy artillery into Nantpoat Village. Reportedly, 7 local people were injured. 

Summary on 19 August 

  • In the tenure of the military dictators, multi-national companies have been withdrawing their businesses from the country. 
  • The military junta would include 20000-MMK bank notes in the salaries of the staff. At first, they had stated that they published the money just for commemoration. In other words, they are not as good as their word.
