Spring Revolution Daily News for 18 June 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • According to the PDF Headquarters under Ministry of Defence-NUG on Saturday, a large number of weapons were confiscated from the enemies in Sakhangyi Village Battle in Kalaywa Township of Sagaing Region and two cars were destroyed. 
  • Union Minister of Labour-NUG stated that they had been making an effort to be able to create job opportunities for the workers in the areas under their influence and protect the basic rights of Myanmar people including labour rights. 
  • In commemoration of the 2023 Pride Month, Ministry of Women, Youth and Children-NUG expressed their acknowledgement for the effort and commitment of the LGBTIQA+ community in the Spring Revolution. 
  • Ministry of Education-NUG stated that the attacks on schools were inhumane war crimes and they strongly condemned such activities of the junta army. 
  • Dr. Okka, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health-NUG, joined the International Conference of Emergency Medicine 2023. Reportedly, he presented about the military junta using violence against the healthcare staff and destroying healthcare facilities. 
  • For the internally displaced people and the victims of the Cyclone Mocha, the Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management-NUG has been supporting food and shelter. 
  • According to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG, the PDFs managed to clear off 45 members of the junta armed forces within a day in the People’s Defensive War. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In the meeting with Foreign Minister of Singapore, the US foreign minister called on ASEAN to continue their pressure on the military junta and have communication with the opposition. 
  • To conduct Track 1.5 meeting for Myanmar’s affairs in Bangkok on 19 June, the Thai military government invited the junta Foreign Minister and the others from some ASEAN countries. Regarding it, the former Deputy Prime Minister and elected MP expressed his criticism. 
  • In Salingyi Township of Sagaing Region, the S&C donated food to the displaced people. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a local rally of ‘Never Step Back’ marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Ayeyarwady Region, a rally of Kyankhine Township General Strike Committee conducted an anti-junta movement, holding signs for strong determination. 
  • In Salingyi Township, the displaced people from Nyaungbingyi Village Tract have been badly in need of food and tarpaulins. 
  • Salingyi Special Task Force conducted bomb attacks via drones on the junta army stations in Kani, Salingyi and Pale, including the Northwest Military Headquarters. 
  • In commemoration of the birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi, the S&C will donate aid to IDPs worth 250 lakh MMK, in 10 villages and 5 townships of Sagaing Region from 17 to 19 June. 
  • In Salingyi Township, the junta army has been burning the huts near Nyaungbingyi Jetty. 
  • On behalf of the Japan-Myanmar Friendship Association, U Zaw Min Htike, Patron of the Rural Land, donated tarpaulins to the displaced people in Karenni State. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, up to 6 internally displaced people have been bitten by poisonous snakes from the beginning of June to 17 June. 
  • In Monywa, local PDFs attacked No. (2) Police Station in Industrial Zone Ward at 10:30 am Friday. Reportedly, 3 junta policemen died. 
  • In Kyaikto Township of Mon State, a mortar fell in Ywarle Ward in the town of Thein Zayat. Consequently, a woman lost her life and 4 civilians including a child aged 5 were injured. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • According to Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), their Chief Military Officer met with local people from Kutkhine Township on Friday. 
  • The SSPP-SSA stated on Friday that the junta army had been installing heavy artillery in Lechar Township of Shan South. 
  • According to Cyclone Mocha Rescue and Resettlement Committee of the Arakan Army, only 30% of the households in Rakhine State have received aid and the remaining 70% are still in need of emergency assistance. 
  • In Mobye on the border of Shan and Karenni, no less than 10 junta soldiers died in local battles whereas 6 PDF members got injured. 
  • On 9 June, Tanai Wayazut Militia led by Min Zay Thant arrested two fully-armed members of the  Kachin Independence Army (KIA). 

The Military Council 

  • According to the Burmese Women’s Union, there have been 59 cases in which the junta armed forces have sexually assaulted women since the military coup in 2021. 
  • According to the invitation letter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thailand, they will conduct a free ministerial meeting in the upcoming week for the ASEAN to fully communicate again with the military junta of Myanmar. 
  • The junta Health Minister claimed that there must be necessary public health measures against Dengue Fever and Cholera in the post storm-period, which is also the beginning of the rainy season. 
  • In Sitway, the junta Ministers met with the UN Regional Coordinator for international assistance to the victims of the Cyclone Mocha. 

Summary on 18 June 

  • The military junta has been committing war crimes by deliberately attacking schools, hospitals and clinics. 
  • In Shan South, there has been tension as the junta army has been preparing for military operations. Consequently, there might be local battles anytime.
