The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and CNDF near Parthe village in Phalan Township at about 10:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died and ten others were injured.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG announced that there was a battle between the junta army and CDF Matupi near the town on Mindat-Matupi road at about 8:00 pm Saturday.
  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the junta army killed a civilian in Titain Township and set fire to 5 people’s houses.
  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the junta army was attacked with mines by local PDF at Kangyiwa bridge in Tamu of Sagaing Region at about 8:00 am Sunday. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, there was a clash between a combined force of junta soldiers + Pyusawti members and local PDF in Shwebo Township at about 3:00 pm Sunday. Reportedly, 3 members of the junta armed forces lost lives and so did a PDF member.
  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the junta army was attacked with mines by local PDF in Katha Township at about 3:00 pm Sunday. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died and another one was injured.
  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the junta army arrested villagers, three adults and three children aged 10, in Kamma Township of Magwe Region on Sunday.
  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 65 members of the junta armed forces had died and 14 others had been injured on Sunday.
  • According to the weekly weather forecast by Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management-NUG, there would be untimely rainfall in Yangon, Ayeyarwaddy, Kayin, Mon and Taninthayi in the first three months of 2022.
  • Click2Donate announced that their fund-raising campaign for revolution forces had exceeded their expected amount of 8000 lakh MMK.
  • According to Ministry of Communication, Information and Technology-NUG, there was a virtual event for collecting funds through a meeting among local and international donors, PDF members and Union Ministers of the NUG on Sunday.
  • Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) announced that without distinguishing civilians from revolutionists, the junta army had been ruthlessly killing people in Karenni State.

Revolution Activities

  • In Pyigyi Dagun Township of Mandalay Region, there was gunfire at junta soldiers taking security at Sa Ward administration office on Monday afternoon. According to a joint statement by Rangers of Mandalay (ROM) and YNO MDY, three junta soldiers were hit with bullets and two of them died.
  • At about 7:00 pm Sunday, there were exchanges of fire between the junta army and an urban guerrilla force in Tahan Ward of Kalay. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died on the spot.
  • In Shwebo Township, junta soldiers and Pyusawti members stationed in Maubin village on Sunday. According to local residents, four people were arrested and died due to ill treatment.
  • As a 313-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In addition to no arrests, the military junta have been taking security for gambling, sex workers and playing digital lottery all over the country.
  • As a 344-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday morning.
  • On Sunday, Tamu PDF announced a warning against trading and using military products in their district, and that strong action would be taken against those who fail to follow it.
  • In Tapun of Bago Region, a female clerk of electricity department ran away with electricity bills worth 90 lakh MMk. Consequently, the department announced that those who had paid the bills had to repay.
  • In Mrauk-U Township of Rakhine State, there was a bomb explosion in Paungtote Ywathit village, injuring two children.
  • In Yegyi Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, San Tint, allegedly a junta informer, was shot by an unknown gunman at about 10:00 am Monday.
  • At about 12:00 am Sunday, the junta army raided the house of Daw Ei Ei Pyone, Maubin Township MP, and arrested her father.
  • In Mawlamyeingyun Township, U Than Win, administrator of Kyawzan village, was shot.
  • Via social media on Monday, PDF Kalay introduced a mobile application for exclusive funding of their force.
  • Despite invasive attacks of the junta armed forces in villages in Pale Township, there was an anti-junta movement on Sunday evening.
  • In Hleku Township of Yangon Region, Hla Htay, allegedly a junta informer, was shot dead at about 5:00 pm Sunday.
  • At about 6:40 pm Sunday, there was an explosion near the electricity office in South Okkalapa Township. Reportedly, a near-by car was damaged and some junta soldiers were injured.
  • In the clearance of squatters’ houses by the junta army in Mandalay, houses of those who had been living there for over 50 years were also included.
  • In Aungmye Thazan Township, a grenade was thrown at near Obo Prison on Sunday night. Reportedly, three junta soldiers, taking security at the gate, were injured.
  • In Taninthayi Township, a MyTel telecom tower was burnt down by a local guerrilla force in Banlaw village on Sunday afternoon.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Fruso of Karenni State, the junta army dropped bombs on an IDP camp via fighter jets at about 1:00 am Monday. Reportedly, three people, including two girls aged 12 and 15, died on the spot.
  • In Phapun District under the control of KNU Regiment (5), KNLA conducted an attack on the junta BGF camp in Mepali village on Sunday and set it on fire.
  • According to KNU Central, there was a change in leadership position in 19th congress of Myeik-Dawei District under the control of the KNU Regiment (4) from 11 to 15 January.
  • According to Save Myanmar USA, nearly 40000 USD was collected for the Chin land Joint Defense Committee, comprising 17 CDFs and PDFs.

The Military Council

  • The junta ministry of health announced that over 500,000 doses of Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccine, procured from Russia, arrived at Yangon airport at 5:00 am Sunday.
  • In his meeting with staff members at Nay Pyi Taw MRTV, the junta minister of information told them to make an effort via media for the access of the public to the right information.
  • The junta media said that two PDF members threw a hand-made bomb into the religious compound in Chanmya Thazi Township of Mandalay Region on Friday evening.
  • The junta newspaper said that their armed forces had been raising security measures to protect the public from violent activities in Loikaw of Kayah State.
  • The junta newspaper said that two LNG trucks were attacked by PDFs in Myawaddy Township of Kayin State on Sunday afternoon. Reportedly, two drivers died and two vehicles were damaged.

Summary on 17 January

  • Despite uttering the word ‘peace’, the military junta conducted heavy air strikes in ethnic areas. They could not beat revolutionists with Tumi guns in ground battles and thus, they used too much force in their air attacks, causing loss to some upcountry PDF camps.
  • However, the military junta found it difficult as the revolution did not lose momentum. They could not fully persuade EAOs despite their propaganda policies. As for the EAOs, they have been standing for justice and joining hands in the fight against the military dictatorship.
