The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG called on the Thai Government and the international community to help Myanmar people from Kayin State, who have run away from battles across the border, due to invasion and violence by the military junta.
  • In the battle between the junta army and a combined force of KNLA+PDF at Laykaykaw Metaw Thalay Priklaw, 18 junta soldiers died. The NUG also announced that 6 junta soldiers and 2 BGF members were caught alive and their weapons were confiscated.
  • According to the NUG, the junta police force sealed off the houses of U Aung Kyi Nyunt; Chair of CRPH, U Tun Myint; Secretary of CRPH, U Zay Latt; member of CRPH, Man Win Khine Than; Prime Minister of the NUG, U Lwin Ko Latt; Minister of Defence-NUG, Dr. Tukaung; Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation-NUG and Dr. Shwe Pone; Deputy Minister of Health-NUG on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • According to Naing Thu Wunna, Minister of Labour-NUG, there will be a meeting between the Ministry and Myanmar workers in Thailand on Sunday in commemoration of International Migrants’ Day, which falls on 18th December.
  • Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Minister of Health and Education-NUG, said that the revolution would go one step further. He also called on the public to collect food and medicine, and for pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, clinics, medical professionals and donors to contribute to the medical team of the revolution in secret.
  • U Yi Mon, Minister of Defence-NUG, sent a statement to the opening ceremony of basic military training (1/2021) by Northern PDF.

Revolution Activities

  • The previous day, mortars shot by the junta army in Kayin State fell into Thailand. Thai Royal Army-Thai Myanmar Border Central Department officially warned that if the same happened again, they would shoot back in response.
  • According to Captain Nyi Thuta from People’s Soldiers, CDM soldiers led a successful testing of frontline mines and car mines. They have been producing a lot of them for PDF LDF. He also said that Project K1 could be used for dual purposes; not only as frontline mines but also anti-car mines.
  • On Friday, hearing-impaired people from all over the country conducted a prayer strike against the military dictatorship and for the victory of KNU, KNLA and PDF who were fighting against the junta armed forces in Laykaykaw of Kayin State.
  • As a 282-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township in Sagaing Region, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Friday morning.
  • On Friday morning, a rally of Monywa-Amyint General Strike expressed their objection to the military dictatorship, holding flaming torches and signs - ‘Let’s join the revolution together with PDFs to end warfare suffering’.
  • In Pale Township, there were 8 battles between the junta army and local PDF within 2 days. Reportedly, 38 junta soldiers died.
  • As a 313-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Friday morning.
  • In a village of Yinmabin Township, local people carried out a dawn march against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Wetlet Township, a combined rally of students’ unions marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Dibeyin Township, local people marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Friday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • Due to invasive attacks by the junta army in Kayin State, over 2000 people, who have ran to Mae Sot on the Myanmar-Thai border, are in trouble on winter nights without any shelter or blankets.
  • Reportedly, IDPs in Mewaki Village had to move again urgently in case of mortars falling in the area.
  • In Bodataung Township of Yangon Region, youth hung banners against the junta education in front of No. (4) high school on Friday.
  • In Thanlyin Township, there was an explosion at the township municipal staff housing on Friday afternoon.
  • In Kyimyindine Township, there was an explosion near a township electricity office at about 6:00 am Friday.
  • In South Dagon Township, a man aged 50, owner of a betel shop, was shot by an unknown gunman on 56 crossroads at about 6:10 am Friday.
  • ACPF announced on Thursday night that they had conducted two bomb attacks on the junta police housing on Myo-U Yeitmon street in South Dagon Township.
  • In North Okkalapa Township, the junta armed forces started to station in some schools and religious halls.
  • In Pathein Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, Mg Oo, a local guide to the junta armed forces, was shot dead at about 6:00 pm on 14th December.
  • In Pathein, a group of bad men accused the public of contacting the PDF and blackmailed them for not reporting it to the junta armed forces.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • KNU officially announced on Thursday that there were exchanges of fire due to the junta armed forces entering Laykaykaw by force.
  • In Thatone Township of Mon State, KNU Regiment (1) announced that the public were to travel only from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and they were not to go out during restricted hours.
  • According to the KNU, 8 prisoners of war caught alive in the fighting at Laykaykaw on Thursday, 6 junta soldiers from Ka-Ma-Ya (275) and 2 BGF members, were warmly welcomed.
  • On Friday morning, a combined force of KNLA conducted an attack and took control of the junta army camp in Kyathaungseik Village of Beelin Township under control of KNU Regiment (1).
  • In Pha-Pun (Mutraw) District under control of KNU Regiment (5), there were 111 battles between the junta army + the junta BGF and KNLA from 1st to 15th December. According to Mutraw newsletter, 54 junta soldiers died and 39 others were injured.
  • According to a local person of the KNU, Htet Lin Zaw, the junta military officer who had been injured due to a gunshot by a KNLA sniper in Laykaykaw fighting, died.
  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, about 200 junta soldiers arrived at Phaya Sakan Village via forest routes. Reportedly, there was a heavy fighting between them and local CDF at about 1:00 pm Friday.

The Military Council

  • On Friday, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi wearing prison uniform in white and brown and Dr. Myo Aung in white and blue prison uniform were questioned at a special court in Zabyu Thiri Township.
  • According to the junta newspaper, some members of the military junta left Sittway for Mrauk-U on Friday morning and left instructions for the systematic preservation of the ancient cultural heritage.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing received a visit of the Indian Ambassador in Nay Pyi Taw and expressed his sorrow for the helicopter accident of Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces. They also discussed economic, trade, security and defence affairs.
  • Dr. Toe Min Tun, junta-appointed director of livestock department, said that it was necessary to establish a veterinary workforce system and provide training on the basis of Technical Vocational Educational & Training (TVET).

Summary on 17th December

  • The war flame, started by the military junta, spread all over Kayin State, causing battles in most parts of the area. Reportedly, the junta army had a great loss there. They also shot mortars at the IDPs on purpose and those mortars shells fell into a Thai area. After the Thai army issued a warning, their armoured vehicles could be found patroling alongside the border.
  • As there was news about mobilization of the junta armed forces, there might be fighting in Kayin State. As for Chin State, their local CDFs had battles against the junta army. In Pale Sagaing, the military junta had a great loss due to guerrilla attacks by local PDFs.
  • Dr. Zaw Wai Soe from the NUG warned that the revolution would take one step further. Consequently, there might be warfare activities, guerrilla attacks and bomb attacks throughout the country.
  • Reportedly, there were bomb explosions in many parts of Yangon.
