Spring Revolution Daily News for 17th November 2021

The Military Council

  • According to the junta newspaper, Mr. Sasakawa, Special Envoy of the Japanese government to Myanmar National Reconciliation, arrived in Sittway of Rakhine State on Monday morning and met with the chief minister of Rakhine State at the state residence.
  • According to the junta media, Danny Fenster, an American journalist in detention at Insein jail who had been sentenced to 11 years in prison, was pardoned and deported on Monday.
  • According to an announcement on Monday, the junta election commission sued 16 people, including President and State Counsellor, accusing them of getting involved in electoral frauds.
  • According to the junta media, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing met with the special envoy of Asian Affairs under the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the hall of the military council in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday afternoon.
  • The junta working committee to remedy economic repercussions caused by COVID-19 announced that loan applications would be accepted until 3rd December to help film, music, performance, press and media industry affected by the pandemic.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Hotel and Tourism, opening ceremonies of the beaches in Ayeyarwaddy Region for tourism season were held at Yamonna Oo Hotel of Ngwe Saung Beach and Azura Hotel of Chaungtha Beach on Monday.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Following the right to self-defence, the public has been taking part in the People’s Defensive War. According to the NUG, 17 junta soldiers died and 8 others were injured in defensive attacks on Monday.
  • Ministry of Defence- NUG announced that 5 soldiers and 5 police members made contact on Tuesday to join the public as they could no longer accept the military dictatorship.
  • At the press conference of NUCC, U Lwin Ko Latt said that the NUG was in the position of getting recognized by international governments in a roundabout way.
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs- NUG had 28 meetings with responsible personnel of international governments, including Commonwealth and International Development of the UK Foreign Ministry.
  • At NUCC press conference, U Moe Thu, a leader and member of the anti-junta general strike committee, said that the interim constitution would be adopted at the public’s conference to be held in December.

Revolution Activities

  • Japanese Foreign Minister said on Tuesday that the visit of Sasakawa, Chair of the Nippon Foundation, to Myanmar had not been arranged by the Japanese government or it was not an official plan of the government.
  • In Monywa of Sagaing Region, a junta army officer, who had been out for shopping, was shot in his head In Phayagyi Ward and died on the spot on Tuesday morning.
  • In Minkin Township, 4 local residents of Anauttaw village were arrested and killed by a combined force of the junta army and Pyusawti members on Monday.
  • In the west of Ye-U Township, the junta army shot dead Ko Aung Ko Win, a mentally-impaired man from Kun-Ohn village.
  • According to local residents, the junta army set fire to houses on Hlaing Chaung divergent point on the side of Pale-Gantgaw road at about 5:30 pm Monday.
  • As 251-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • As 282-day protest, Kalay General Strike marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • On Tuesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Kyainseikgyi Township, a combined rally of Basic Education Students’ Union and women from Iron Roses marched against slavery education of the military junta on Tuesday.
  • In Kyimyindine Township of Yangon Region, Ba-Ka-Tha Students’ Union protested against slavery education of the military junta, hanging a banner in front of No. (2) high school.
  • In Mingala Taung Nyunt, youth from various townships spread anti-junta brochures, including the ones saying ‘We will never be silent, near Mingala market traffic lights on Tuesday.
  • Regarding an attack at Tasone police camp in Tandabin Township the previous day, the junta armed forces unlawfully arrested and killed Ko Zin Ko Htet and friends, accusing them of being attackers.
  • At about 11:10 am Tuesday, there was an explosion at the electricity office on Kyaukdine street in Kayan.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, youth protested against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning, chanting slogans that they stand with Sultans in the fight against dictators.
  • In Pathein Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, a military convoy of 8 cars, including those with junta ministers, was attacked by a combined force of local PDFs. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died.
  • In Hinthada, a short course had been provided to replace CDM staff of the public health department.
  • In Titain Township of Chin State, 3 junta soldiers committed rape many times against a mother of an infant before her own family on 11th November. PDF - Zoland announced on Tuesday that they would take revenge on such a case.
  • Ethnic Armed Organizations
  • According to Mutra Newsletter, 32 junta soldiers, including military officers, died and 56 others were injured in the battles between a combined force of the junta army + BGF and KNLA in the area under the control of KNU Regiment (5) on 11th and 12th November.

Summary on 17th November

  • In recent days, political representatives and diplomats from the international community met with the military junta. They had discussions over Myanmar’s affairs as well as matters of their interest. They also called for the release of the country’s leaders in detention. However, let alone doing it, the military junta even carried out more lawsuits against the leaders.
  • As for the NUG, they had more relations with the international community. They also gained support from international governments. According to a NUCC press conference, more EAOs joined the revolution.
  • In terms of warfare, the military junta had a great loss and thus, they committed more and more war crimes against civilians.
