The Military Council

  •  In Mingala Taung Nyunt Township of Yangon East District, APC Center has been opened at Thein Phyu boxing stadium to provide medical treatment for COVID-19.
  • In Mandalay, the oversight team for the market of medicines and medical supplies has been inspecting pharmaceutical warehouses.
  • The military junta announced again that they would give mercy on CDM staff members and other citizens who had been running away out of worry, apart from those who were accused of conducting violence in protests and those who were deeply involved in supporting CDM staff financially or in any other ways.
  • U Khin Yi, junta Union Minister of Immigration, said that the results of the population census were basic statistics used for the development of the country as well as the defense and security of the country.
  • The junta Central Bank instructed all banks, financial companies and service providers of mobile money to take action with coordinated efforts so that they could trace financial transactions related to the sales of Spring Lottery Raising the Flag of Victory.
  • National Democracy Force (NDF), one of 28 pro-military political parties, announced that they would take legal action concerning the assassination of their CEC member and chair of advocacy in Kayah State, U Han Thar.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • NUG announced that as a step of revolution against the military junta, 50,000 tickets of Spring Lottery would be sold at 4:00 pm on the second day.
  • NUG called for silent participation in their Spring Lottery and activities of financial transaction methods which could not be traced by the military junta.
  • Ministry of Electricity and Energy-NUG announced that they dismissed the junta personnel who had oppressed, threatened, dismissed, removed from staff housing and demanded repayment of two-month loans from the CDM members in Myanmar Petroleum Enterprise.
  • The allotted number of Spring lottery tickets were sold out within hours.

Revolution Activities

  • In Tantsi of Sagaing Region, the owner of a pharmacy in Myitta Myein Ward was shot dead by three buyers at about 9:00 am.
  • In the northwest of Tantsi, a convoy of military trucks entering Daunggyi village was attacked with mines at about 8:40 am Monday. According to local sources, there might be casualties.
  • In Kalay of Sagaing Region, local PDF made attacks with time bombs at the junta ration army, regional oversight military headquarters and Kalay Police station at about 7:30 pm Sunday. Reportedly, explosions took place at those locations, except for the police station.
  • To mark their 190-day protest, a rally of Kalay residents marched up to the downtown area on Monday morning and expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
  • As a 159-day protest, a rally comprising various villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched in the drizzle on Monday and expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • In Myaing Township, Basic Education General Strike Committee, in cooperation with the public from the eastern zone protested against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Myothit of Magwe Region, there were bomb explosions at the township electricity manager office and 66-KV sub-power station on Myothit-Natmauk road at about 8:30 pm Sunday. Baitthano PDF said that they had carried them out as preliminary action to put a stop to the collection of electricity bills.
  • In Yezagyo of Magwe Region, there was a bomb explosion in No. (7) police station at about 3:00 pm Monday.
  • On Sunday night, Mandalay Monks’ Union recited Parittas for the public as usual and protested against the military dictatorship.
  • On Monday, Mandalay Monks’ Union made an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • On Monday afternoon, a rally of Mandalay Monks’ Union marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship and for the emergence of the Federal Union.
  • In Mandalay, Seinban rally marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • The Chair of the Regional Monks’ Committee said that the military junta had withdrawn the plan to keep monks at checkpoints in Mandalay.
  • At a time of tight security measures by the junta armed forces with the excuse for COVID-19, Chan/Zi rally marched for supporting of the NUG and for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • On Monday, a rally of Aungmye Thazan made a protest, “Accept NUG, reject Military”.
  • In Mandalay, Myataung rally led a march against the military watchdog on Monday.
  • On Monday, a rally of Mandalay youth conducted an anti-junta movement.
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, there was a motorbike strike in the rural community, for official recognition of the NUG and the end of the military dictatorship on Monday afternoon.
  • In Thayetchaung Township, there was a “From the People to the People” campaign in rural community on Monday, raising awareness on COVID-19 and donating food and medicines.
  • In Dawei, a rally of youth/students expressed their desire for supporting the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Longlone Township, a rally of youth conducted a march- “Only NUG is our government. Drive away the military watchdog”.
  • In Pha-Kant Township of Kachin State, residents of Lonekhine village marched in the rain on Monday morning and protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Bago Region, U Nyunt Shwe, MP of No. (1) Constituency in Bago Township and chair of Bago Township NLD, had been unjustly arrested by the junta armed forces. Reportedly, he was infected with COVID-19 and passed away at about 5:45 am Monday.
  • In Chin State, there was a battle between CDF and the junta armed forces between Mindat and Matupi on Sunday. CDF Mindat announced that more than 20 junta soldiers died and 15 others were seriously injured in the fighting.
  • In Mindat of Chin State, there were battles between CDF and the junta armed forces. Reportedly, the fighting became more severe on the third day.
  • In Ayeyarwady Region, three hand-made bombs were found in front of the electricity office in Ward (5) of Bogalay on Yagyaw road at about 12:45 pm Monday.
  • On Saturday, the junta armed forces arrested four residents of the eastern village in Dimawso Township, the IDPs who had gone into the village for food. According to a person in charge of the IDPs, those men were not released yet.
  • The junta army could not catch a woman who had been helping the IDPs in Kayar State with many battles after the military coup. Therefore, they arrested five relatives, including her mother and younger brother.
  • In Bago Region, a young man was shot dead by the junta armed forces in Ward (3) of Phayagyi as he played a mobile game in front of his house and ran into the house when junta soldiers were on their night patrol.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Shan North, there were battles between MNDAA and the junta armed forces near Pansai on the Myanmar-China border in early August. So far, both sides have been stationing there.
  • Restrictions have been made upon travelling from KIO northern region to Putao Township.
  • General Tun Myat Naing, Chief of AA, said that the Rakhine people had been dutiful along the revolution journey of ULA/AA and they still needed to be cautious in unity.
  • On Monday morning, there was fighting between KNU Regiment (2) and the junta army near Kachingwe on Taungoo-Bawgali road between Bago Region and Kayin State. According to residents, 4 junta soldiers died, no less than 10 others were injured and 4 military trucks were damaged.
  • On Monday, the event in celebration of the 50th anniversary of SSPP was held at Wanhai headquarters in Gyaythi Township.

Summary on 17th August

  • In Yangon, the junta armed forces had been looking for young protesters. They arrested young passers-by. Therefore, public protests were silent.
  • In Mandalay Region, public protests had great momentum and so did the armed revolution. Amidst arrests and travel restrictions, various rallies marched against the military dictatorship. There were also guerrilla attacks.
  • In Sagaing Region with powerful armed revolution, the junta armed forces had been doing more oppression to residents. However, revolution activities did not lose momentum. There were also constant protests against the military dictatorship.
  • In Chin, Kayah and Kayin states, there were battles due to the invasion of the junta armed forces. Consequently, the number of IDPs increased. In Shan North, residents had to take refuge at the border area due to the battles between ethnic armed organizations and the junta armed forces. It was likely that the fighting would continue there.
  • The military junta had been preventing the public in various ways from buying the Spring lottery which would defame them. Besides that, Immigration Minister U Khin Yi had been doing census-based activities to stop the momentum of protests and revolution. There might be activities of collecting population census soon.
  • As for the NUG, they had been trying to prove public support for them by putting an end to the junta lottery through the sales of the Spring lottery.
