The Military Council

  • In the statement on World Food Day, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that despite increased costs of supplies, transportation and production due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no lack of food in the country. In addition, it was predicted that crop production could not be damaged due to fine weather and sufficient water for agriculture.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they had discussed to consider ASEAN Compact and ASEAN commitments. They later found out that there were other kinds of interference, rather than political solutions and thus, they were negotiating as much as possible.
  • The junta leader falsely claimed that some EAOs were taking advantage of political instability and carrying out activities such as producing and trading illegal drugs, and thus they had to take action against those organizations.
  • The junta leader said that farmers could earn more by working for higher rice productivity, in addition to self-sufficiency. The basic reference price for rice was set on the basis of the country’s economy and minimum wages.
  • The junta leader said that he was trying the best as he wanted to leave only a good legacy for future generations. Other members of the council were to be open-minded and contribute to the development of the country.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG announced that there was a coordination meeting between CDM staff members of General Administration Department (GAD) and Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG to carry on with activities. Moreover, a Committee of CDM staff members of GAD was established.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights- NUG, said that in spite of battles between armed forces at the time of the defensive war, civilians need to be protected.
  • Since 7th September when the NUG declared a People’s Defensive War, the number of soldiers and police who want to join the public has increased on a daily basis. The NUG announced that a total of (763); 429 soldiers and 334 policemen; contacted them from the 7th September to the 7th October.
  • In his speech at the UN, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun said that women and LGBTI activists faced sexual harassment from the junta army. However, such violence could not stop their strong determination and efforts for justice and human rights.

Revolution Activities

  • ASEAN Chair Brunei confirmed that Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing would not be invited to attend ASEAN Summit.
  • On Saturday, Dawei youth conducted an anti-junta movement - “Support the Defensive War. There must be war for peace”.
  • In Mandalay, a rally of a variety forces marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of Mandalay Ba-Ka-Tha Central and BEGSC carried out a guerrilla protest against the military dictatorship.
  • On Friday, Mandalay Monks’ Union made a night strike against the military dictatorship, calling on the public to take part in Spring Revolution for the victory and not to pay any taxes for the downfall of the military junta.
  • In Patheingyi, there was a bomb explosion at the junta land registration department at about 1:30 pm Friday.
  • On Saturday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • On Saturday, Myaing Township Basic Education General Strike Committee, in cooperation with local residents, expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • In Pakkoku of Magwe Region, a MyTel telecom tower was blown up on Street (2) of No. (3-C) Ground the previous night.
  • In Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region, Tautgyant youth made an indoors campaign for the revolution on Saturday.
  • In Tamwe Township, there was a mine attack on a military car in Myitta Ward at about 5:00 pm Friday.
  • On Saturday morning, there was a bomb explosion at Mone/Taung administration office in Sanchaung Township, despite security measures by junta soldiers.
  • On Saturday, anti-junta youth led a campaign on some YBS buses, distributing and placing leaflets - “The army is in ruins”.
  • In Kyimyindine Township, the junta army opened gunfire and arrested the occupants of a car which bumped into the barriers a near traffic police office on Home road at about 9:00 pm Friday.
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Dibeyin Township of Sagaing Region, a military truck was attacked with mines by local PDF near Pyangya village at about 7:00 pm Friday.
  • According to Ayadaw Township Public Administration Team, second sergeant Kyaw Hlaing Oo and police Kaung Htet Zaw joined the CDM and thus, they had been sent to a liberated area.
  • In Shwebo Township, local residents protested against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Katha Township, Fox Army HPDF attacked Inn village police camp and set it on fire on Friday night. Reportedly, a junta soldier died in the incident.
  • As a 251-day protest, Kalay people expressed their desire against the military dictatorship on Saturday morning.
  • In Monywa, an alliance of local PDFs conducted an explosion at a branch of KBZ Bank on Kyaukka road at about 4:00 am Saturday. They had done so because public’s accounts were blocked and confidential information of public’s privacy was disclosed.
  • In Myaung Township, a convoy of 3 military trucks was attacked with mines by an alliance of PDFs at about 9:30 am Saturday. Reportedly, 2 military trucks were damaged.
  • In Wetlet Township, a junta-appointed administrator of Gyibagan village and his wife were shot dead by local PDF at about 11:00 am Saturday.
  • In Pyinmana Township of Nay Pyi Taw, local PDF made a bomb attack at Myawaddy Bank, owned by the military junta, at about 7:45 pm Friday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.
  • Representing Taungoo District in Bago Region, Htantapin PDF Batch (1), consisting of multi-ethnic people, finished their military training on Friday.
  • On Friday, people’s soldiers called on other soldiers to leave the junta army and join the public as soon as possible as the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing could not attend ASEAN meetings.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Kachin State, the junta armed forces invading the areas under control of the KIA regiment (3) and (6) were attacked with mines at about 9:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, there were many casualties of junta soldiers.
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and a combined force of KNLA+DKBA+Eagles Brigate at about 8:00 am Saturday.
  • In the area under KNU Regiment (5), there were 6 battles between the junta army and KNLA on 13th and 14th October. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died and 12 others were injured.
  • In Pha-Lan Township of Chin State, there was a clash between the junta army and CNDF for half an hour at about 11:00 am Friday. Reportedly, a junta soldier died and another one was injured.

Summary on 16th October

  • At the weekly meeting of the military council, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing talked about issues that appeared to contradict the real situations such as more productivity in agriculture and livestock sector, exports beyond self-sufficiency and no need to spend foreign currency upon resuming of factory production of chemical fertilizer. Regarding ASEAN, he tried to explain that ASEAN had changed their mind due to others’ interference.
  • The junta leader falsely claimed that some EAOs were producing drugs. Unlike on the anniversary of NCA, he was as changeable as the weather.
  • In Sagaing Region, there were constant battles with a great loss of the junta army. They even had to use air attacks against local PDFs with Tumi guns. As for Chin, Kayah, Kayin, Kachin and Shan North, they had battles against the junta armed forces.
  • In Yangon, Mandalay, Mon, Bago, Magwe, Sagaing and Taninthayi Dawei, there were guerrilla protests as well as activities of guerrilla revolution.
