Spring Revolution Daily News for 17 June 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In the annual meeting of the UNICEF Executive Board in New York, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN U Kyaw Moe Tun reported that the military junta had killed more than 400 children. 
  • In the 16th UNCRPD Conference in New York from 13 to 15 June, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun stated that the number of disabled people had increased in Myanmar due to the violent activities of the military junta. 
  • Ko Nway Oo, a member of Myaung Township People’s Defence Force, was temporarily laid off for taking part in the Sagaing Forum. Regarding it, the forum organizers will discuss with the Minister of Defence-NUG. 
  • At 10:00 am Thursday, the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration conducted a meeting. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Region, a rally of Yinmabin North marched against the military dictatorship on Friday morning. 
  • On Friday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship. 
  • In Kalay Township, the junta army shot mortars into the monastic school in Thazi Village on Friday morning. Consequently, a child lost their life and many people were injured. 
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta army raided and set fire to Thagara Village on Thursday. Reportedly, 6 houses were burnt down. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, the junta army set fire to Shangone Village on Wednesday. Reportedly, 4 houses were burnt down to ashes. 
  • In Sagaing Township, over 30 junta soldiers died in local battles near the town of Sartaung from 13 to 15 June. 
  • In Chaung-U Township, a combined rally of PDFs attacked Kanzi Pyu Village on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, 2 junta policemen died and 12 Pyusawti members were caught. 
  • In Yinmabin, Eagle Defence Force conducted attacks with heavy artillery on the junta armed forces in town at 9:30 pm Tuesday. 
  • In Tilin Township of Magwe Region, there was an attack on the junta soldiers and Pyusawti members taking away the public’s belongings. Reportedly, the PDF lost 2 members. 
  • In Pauk Township, there was a mine attack on a junta troop taking security for the ration convoy to No. (24) Military Weapon Factory at about 12:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, there were a large number of casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • On 11 June, the military junta took out two political prisoners from the detention place of Gantgaw Police Station. They then shot them dead outside of town. 
  • In Mandalay, there was a bomb attack on the junta internal revenue department at 10:30 am Thursday. Reportedly, a clerk got injured. 
  • In Thabaitgyin Township, the junta army forced 3 people to set mines near Kobin Village on Thursday morning. They then silenced them by shooting. 
  • In Madayar Township, a village administrator and former local chair of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) was shot dead on Wednesday evening. 
  • Dr. Tay Zar San, a leader of Mandalay General Strike, called on the public to take part in the flower strike in commemoration of the 78th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi. 
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army set fire to Inbu Ward in Yange Village on Friday morning. 
  • In the northeast of Thayetchaung, local PDF attacked and burnt a camp of the junta army and Pyusawti on 12 June. 
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, there has been intense military tension. Consequently, a local PDF announced that the public were not to travel unless necessary and even if they must do so, they were to follow some rules. 
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, Japan Myanmar Friendship Association donated food to the students of displaced people via Rural Land. 
  • In Mobye on the border of Shan and Karenni, there has been fighting since Friday morning. 
  • To detect the junta activities in advance, Danger Force LPDF has been badly in need of a spy drone. Reportedly, they called for public contributions. 
  • According to Data for Myanmar on Wednesday, the junta armed forces have burnt 70,324 houses throughout the coup period. 
  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), 3662 people have lost lives until 15 June due to violent activities of the junta armed forces. 
  • In Japan, the Spring Film Festival was organized in May and they got over 2000 lakh MMK for the fund of the revolution. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Kalay-Kabaw Area of Chin State, the judiciary department of Chin National Organization resolved 8 cases in February and March 2023. 
  • The Lion Battalion Commando has been conducting a campaign for 3000 lakh MMK within a month. However, they have received only 1400 lakh MMK, 40% of the target amount. 

The Military Council 

  • In Dakhina Thiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw, the sculpture of Maya Wizaya Buddha Image was completed 97%. On Thursday evening, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing went there. 
  • In a meeting on Wednesday, the second junta leader Soe Win claimed that there had been a loss worth over 500 billion MMK due to Cyclone Mocha. 
  • On Thursday afternoon, the junta Ministers met with the United Nations Organizations in Sittway to seek ways to receive international assistance for storm-hit areas. 
  • In the international economics forum in Russia, the junta Minister of Investments and Foreign Economic Relations stated that there would be the first direct flight between Russia and Myanmar in July. 
  • In an interview with Russia Media, the Chair of the junta Central Bank of Myanmar stated that they had been considering the membership in the New Development Bank of BRICS comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. 
  • In Lewe Township of Nay Pyi Taw, a H-120 training helicopter of the junta army crashed near Ledagyi Village on Thursday morning. Reportedly, the training officer Colonel Min Thu Aung and the trainee woman officer died in the incident. 
  • According to the junta Embassy in Tokyo on Thursday, Japanese companies have called for over 1000 Myanmar workers. 
  • According to the junta Embassy in Seoul, nearly 300 Myanmar workers were sent via EPS to Korea in June. 
  • In recent days, the gold prices have surged. Subsequently, some gold traders in Yangon and Mandalay were inspected by the junta departments. 
  • To stabilize the gold price, Mandalay Gold Enterprise Association started to sell a tical of gold for 30 lakh and 50,000 MMK on Friday. 
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, the junta army issued a confidential order to the soldiers, police and non-CDM staff not to travel without permission and not to leave the area. 
  • In Namsam Township of Shan State, Sergeant Myint Oo committed suicide by hanging as he was blamed for all the financial gaps in an audit of the junta air force. 

Summary on 17 June 

  • The military junta has arrested and put pressure on gold dealers for the surge in local gold price. However, the price has not fallen yet. 
  • Throughout the country, the junta armed forces have been killing the people of all ages; young and old alike. Consequently, the number of fatalities has been on the rise among civilians.
