Yangon Region

· In Tamwe Township, the junta armed forces made a crackdown on a protest prior to Martyrs’ Day, led by the General Strike Committee, on Banyadala road on Friday morning. Reportedly, two young people were arrested.

· In the junta newspaper on Friday, the military junta said that U Kyaw Kyaw Oo, NLD member and Hlaing Township MP, had been arrested together with a Retay X Treme 9 MM pistol, an ammo bag, 25 bullets and a fake ID card in North Dagon Township.

· According to local residents of Thingangyun Township, junta soldiers raided apartments and houses in Ward (G/A) from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm Thursday.

· In Yangon where over 600 people have died from the impacts of the COVID-19 third wave, the military junta has been arranging an alternative for burying dead bodies in the ground soon due to difficulties in cremation.

Mandalay Region

· On Friday, a rally of engineers protested against the military dictatorship, chanting “This is the final battle uprooting the military junta”.

· In Pyigyi Dagun Township, there was a bomb explosion at the electricity department at about 11:00 am Friday. Reportedly, U Tint, second officer of township electricity office, died in the incident and so did a civilian who had been there to pay an electricity bill.

· A rally of Mandala University Students marched against the military dictatorship on Friday morning.

· A rally of Mandalay engineers expressed their desire for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday.

· Mandalay Monks’ Union made a protest against the military dictatorship, reciting Parittas.

Sagaing Region

· With a large number of protesters, a rally comprising various villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Friday afternoon.

· In Monywa, a combined rally of Monywa General Strike and Amyint roadside community led by women expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship on Friday.

· Kalay PDF announced on Thursday night that 17 junta soldiers died in the fighting between local PDF and the junta armed forces. On their side, two PDF members lost their lives and so did two civilians.

· There has been fighting in the south of Kalay starting from 15th July. Consequently, nearly 10000 local residents have left the area to seek refuge.

· In Dibeyin Township, the youth held an anti-junta movement on Friday.

Magwe Region

· In Natmauk Township, local residents of a village expressed their objection to the military dictatorship on Friday morning while working on farms.

· In Myaing Township, Basic Education General Strike Committee, in cooperation with the public from the northern zone, took preventive measures against COVID-19 and protested against the military dictatorship on Friday morning.

Taninthayi Region

· In Longlone Township, Longlone rally led by women expressed their desire for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday afternoon.

· In Longlone Township, the students and the public from Thajettaw village made a guerrilla protest on Friday, chanting anti-junta slogans.

· In Longlone Township, there was a rally against the military dictatorship in Lower Yebyu village on Friday morning.

· In Longlone Township, Nyinmaw villagers marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday morning.

· In Kanbauk area of Yebyu Township, young students made a protest against the military dictatorship, distributing masks at crowded places.

· To mark their 159-day protest, a rally led by women conducted an anti-junta movement in Kanbauk area of Yebyu Township on Friday.

· According to Democratic Movement Committee (Dawei District), the junta armed forces arrested three people in Lower Yebyu village of Longlone Township on Friday evening. The reason for their arrest is still unknown.

Rakhine State

· On Friday, four Rakhine students expressed their desire and made some requests in a trial at Sittwe court. They have been charged against Section (29) under the disaster management law, in addition to Section (505-b) for defaming the State.

Kayar State

· KNDF announced that they would uphold the Federal Democracy Compact released by CRPH as political guidance and build a Federal Democracy Union.

· In Bawlake Township, there was a fighting for half an hour between the junta armed forces and Karenni Army in cooperation with KNDF near Nanphe village at about 2:50 pm Friday.

Kachin State

· In Pha-Kant Township, local residents of Lonekhine village group made a protest against the military dictatorship.

Mon State

· In Paung Township, the youth led an anti-junta movement on Friday.

Kayin State

· In Mutraw District under the influence of the KNU Regiment (5), there were 37 battles between the junta armed forces and KNU from 1st to 15th July. According to the newsletter of Regiment (5), the military junta lost 31 soldiers.

· In Myawady Township, the number of COVID-related deaths is on the rise. Reportedly, up to 22 people died within a day on Wednesday.

Shan State

· In Tachileik, business people donated 2 million Thai Baht and over 2 million Myanmar Kyats during the second wave of COVID-19. Tachileik District COVID-19 Committee did not provide any financial statement for that. Reportedly, they have been collecting money again to help with the wave.

· In Shan North, there was a fire at Kutkai Myoma market in the early morning of 16th July during the curfew.

Ayeyarwady Region

· A rally of Mattara Ayeyarwady, led by the youth, marched against the military dictatorship on Friday.

Nay Pyi Taw

· Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) called on the international community to take responsible action for the COVID-19 crisis in Myanmar and provide emergency help through the democratic network across the border.

· A book was published compiling the speeches of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing since the coup. They are available for 1000 Kyats per book at information departments, public communication departments and some book-shops.

· Dr. Win Myat Aye announced that the NUG has been putting in efforts to help the public struggling with a high rate of COVID-19 infection.

· The military junta has been planning to give stipends to the children of former soldiers.

· Through the junta newspapers, Central Bank announced that all the banks in Myanmar would be closed from 17th to 25th July.

· Reportedly, the military junta has invited family members of the martyrs to attend the event of 74th Martyrs’ Day.

· On Friday, NLD Patron U Win Htein was put on trial with Section (124-a) for defaming the State at the special court in Nay Pyi Taw prison.

Summary on 16th July

· While the public have been focusing on COVID-19 in Yangon, the military junta has been looking for the chains of anti-junta groups for arrest. They have also been raiding the houses of NLD members due to reports by their informers. There were just a few protests against the military dictatorship. The need for oxygen is still on the rise. Due to the pandemic, most people are in a difficult condition.

· In Mandalay, there were public protests with great momentum. Amidst arrests, various rallies including the monks expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship. Mandalay PDFs carried out the activities as they had announced.

· In Sagaing Region, public protests still had great momentum. In Kalay, there were battles between the junta armed forces and local PDFs. Consequently, thousands of local residents had to run away.

· In Taninthayi Region, there were still powerful protests against the military dictatorship. As for other states and regions, they had almost no protests as they had to struggle with COVID-19.

· The military junta hasn’t made any plan for the prevention and control of COVID-19. Many people claim the junta is using the excuse of the disease to counter anti-junta forces and protests.
