The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights-NUG, said that ministries were trying their best in accordance with their respective authority and there were some ministries that could make every activity of theirs known while others had to carry out their activities in secret.
  • Dr. Hkalen Tu Hkawng, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation- NUG, said that 2008 Constitution was a political prison and the revolution was to step out of it completely, not to go into it again.

Revolution Activities

  • In the west of Dimawso Township and Fruso Township in Kayah State, children and senior citizens from IDP camps are suffering from malnutrition and they are in need of medicine.
  • Around Behikalaw Village near Laykaykaw, there were battles between the junta army and a combined force of KNU. Consequently, local residents had to cross Thaungyin River and run away to the side of Thailand. Reportedly, over 700 people had crossed over so far.
  • On Thursday, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship and showed that they stand with the KNU and KNLA in the fighting at Laykaykaw of Kayin State, chanting ‘Kayin’s battle is ours! Kayin’s victory is ours!’.
  • As a 281-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Shwebo of Sagaing Region, the junta army shot dead Ko Tun Lwin Oo aged 17 on Tuesday, saying that two men were riding a motorbike together.
  • In Pale Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines by local PDF, led by Captain Dragon, at about 8:45 am Thursday. Reportedly, no less than 8 junta soldiers died.
  • In Ayardaw Township, there was an anti-junta movement on Thursday, sharing O-Wai revolutionary journals with the public.
  • In Monywa, Township Basic Education Students’ Union led a protest against the military dictatorship on Thursday, burning the flag of Myanmar set by the military junta.
  • In Latbadaung Area of Salingyi Township, onion farmers conducted a strike against the military dictatorship on Thursday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In Thaketa Township of Yangon Region, a poster ‘Yangon is with Laykaykaw’ was hung at a traffic police booth on the corner of Myindawtha and Ayawun streets at 10:30 am Thursday and a bomb was detonated.
  • In Kyimyindine Township, youth protested against the military dictatorship on Thursday morning, waving flags and hanging a poster at Bargara Overpass - ‘Carry on with public revolution’.
  • According to local residents, the military junta have been arresting the public during the curfew hour from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am throughout the country, including Yangon.
  • According to responsible personnel of the local administration, the military junta asked for human resources from some villages in Pathein District of Ayeyarwaddy Region to conduct a military operation against local PDFs.
  • According to U Ye Min from AAC, mortars shot by the junta army in Kayin State fell on the streets in Thailand and thus, Thai pedestrians had to run away.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Indawgyi Area of Moenyin Township in Kachin State, a military convoy was attacked with mines by KIA between Mainaung and Mamonekai villages at about 8:00 am Thursday.
  • In Kayin State, the battle between the junta army and KNU resumed near Laykaykaw Peace Village at 10:00 am Thursday.
  • Starting from 9:00 am Thursday, there were battles between the junta army and a combined force of KNU. As the junta armed forces shot mortars into villages, local people had to run away. Reportedly, they are in need of blankets and warm clothes.
  • In Loikaw City and Dimawso Township of Kayah (Karenni) State, there were battles between the junta armed forces and Karenni combined force at 10:00 am Thursday.

The Military Council

  • According to the junta newspaper, U Than Win, Supervisor of Irrigation Department, was injured due to a gunshot from the Phalan armed group. As he was transferred to Kalay Hospital, the car was stopped by gunfire and he was abducted.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that for successful implementation of the satellite launch project, it was necessary to have cooperation and coordination among respective departments and send scholars abroad regularly for required technology. It was also necessary to locally apply what was learnt from other countries with the funding of the country.
  • The 74th anniversary of the junta air force and inauguration ceremony of aircrafts were held at the Air Force Headquarters in Meittila on Wednesday. According to the junta newspaper, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing was present on the occasion.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that attacks could be conducted anywhere anytime through aviation and space technology.
  • The 47th anniversary of Rakhine State Day was celebrated at U Oattama Hall in Sittway of Rakhine State. Present on the occasion were members of the military junta, responsible personnel, political parties, Rakhine ethnic people and invited guests.
  • The propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that there was an exclusive discussion with NDAA on Thursday.
  • In Myitgyina Township of Kachin State, the house of Dr. Hkalen Tu Hkawng, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation-NUG, was surrounded by 20 junta police members and it was sealed off.

Summary on 16th December

  • As the junta army conducted an invasion in Laykaykaw, there were heavy battles in the area. It was likely that they did so there, thinking that it might be the base of the NUG. In terms of warfare activities, the same happened in Kayah and Shan North.
  • Although there were discussions with some northern forces which had not signed the NCA, it was still unknown about discussion points and results. It might be just superficial to control other areas while invading Kayin State.
  • Due to Sagaing guerrilla war, the military junta had a great loss there on a daily basis. As for Yangon and Mandalay, the revolution was found to be at a standstill as some revolution leaders had been arrested.
